Ryan Leng Poised for a Repeat as Michael Dobbs Leads on Day 2

Ryan Leng
Ryan Leng

Defending champion Ryan Leng was all in for his tournament life, his hopes of repeating hanging on a draw against top set.

The miracle royal flush on the turn propelled Leng up the chip count leaderboard on his way to entering Day 2 with 151,500, his quest to go back-to-back in this event still alive.

Just 199 players stand between Leng and another bracelet when Event #48: $1,500 Eight Game Mix resumes at 2 p.m. local time inside the Bally’s Event Center. Leading the way is Michael Dobbs, who turned his 25,000 starting stack into 293,100 heading into Day 2.

An impressive field of top pros are among the 200 surviving players out of a starting field of 695. Robert Campbell, the 2019 Player of the Year, is just outside the top-10 on the leaderboard with 181,800. Scotty Nguyen (160,800), recent bracelet winner Ali Eslami (130,000), and Josh Arieh (119,300) also carry comfortable stacks into the day. Adam Friedman (63,000), Shaun Deeb (60,900), and Maria Ho (60,000) have their work cut out for them on below-average stacks.

Day 2 will consist of 10 hour-long levels, with a 60-minute dinner break at the conclusion of Level 21, which should come around 8:30 p.m. The first order of business will be to narrow the field down to the 105 players who will finish in the money. Then it’s a race to the final table.

PokerNews will be on hand throughout the day chronicling Leng’s attempt at a repeat performance and the rest of the field’s attempt to stop him and enjoy their own WSOP glory.

Unsal Puts Early Hit on Friedman

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

On one of the first hands of the day, Onur Unsal moved all in for his last 39,200 and action folded to Adam Friedman in the blinds.

"Alright," Friedman said as he flicked in a call. He showed {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and was racing against the {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} of Unsal.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, no help to the five-time bracelet winner who handed over most of his stack early on Day 2.

Scott Seiver

No-Limit Hold’em

Jeremy Ausmus raised under the gun, and the action folded around to David Lu in the small blind. Lu raised all in and had Scott Seiver covered when he too slid his short stack into the middle.

Lu proceeded to turn over his hand, not realizing that Ausmus was still to act. After seeing the hand, Ausmus called and all three holdings were revealed.

David Lu: {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Scott Seiver: {k-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Jeremy Ausmus: {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The flop of {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades} kept Ausmus in the lead, as did the {7-Diamonds} turn. Seiver then hit the {5-Hearts} river to stay alive, while Ausmus knocked out Lu.

Bai on a Heater

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Seven Card Stud

Richard Bai: {x-}{x-}/{2-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Nicolas Milgrom: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Heads-up on fifth street, Nicolas Milgrom bet before Richard Bai raised.

Milgrom went into the tank for several minutes before committing his last 20,000. He ended up with {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{k-Spades} for a pair of nines, but Bai had {2-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for tens and deuces to win the pot and knock out Milgrom.

"Richard Bai, on a heater," tablemate Scott Bohlman said following the hand as Bai has already increased the 125,200 he began the day with to around 190,000.
