Welcome To The Shootout!
Hello and welcome to picturesque Cannes where in around two hours time we will be bringing you all the action from Event #4 of the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe, the €3,200 No Limit Hold'em Shootout.
The shootout is a new event for this year's WSOPE and should attract a whole host of big names and well-known faces. For those of you not well versed in the shootout format the tournament will be on nine handed tables and but only the winner of each table will progress to the next round, making the event similar to a massive sit 'n' go, a sit 'n' go that has a coveted gold WSOP bracelet up for grabs!
The tournament kicks off at 1700 CET and PokerNews will be here every step of the way bringing you the very best in live poker tournament updates.
Almost Time
The players are being let into the room to find their seats and play should be underway very soon. A short while ago 162 players had registered for the event, but we expect this number to rise to more than 200. The field is seriously stacked full of world-class players, so seat draw is going to be a crucial factor. Stay tuned, it's going to be a good one today.
Shuffle up and deal
As play got underway the field had swelled to 237 players, with the cap being 300. Each table will play somewhere between eight and ten-handed, with the spare spots being filled in with the late arrivals. There will be no balancing the end of day stacks if the tables are not even at the close of registration. The winner of an eight-handed table will take 72,000 chips forward to day two, the winner of a nine-handed table will take 81,000 through, and the winner of a full ten-handed table will take the full 90,000 chips through.
Day 2 players will all be in the money and they will play out ten three-handed tables. The ten winners will progress to a final ten-handed final table on Thursday.

Ridiculously Stacked Tables

Today's event has attracted some of the biggest names in the business so it was inevitable that some of the tables would become heavily stacked.
Over on Table 27 we have Max Silver, Alex Wice, Barry Greenstein, Hugo Lemaire and Will Failla, whilst Table 16 is the home to Martin Jacobson, Matt Frankland, Govert Metaal and WSOP Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel.
Table 21 is home for Jack Ellwood, WPT Grand Prix de Paris Champion Matt Waxman, Andrew Robl, Nick Binger and Ryan D'Angelo and at the far end of the room we have Dominik Nitsche, Vanessa Selbst and Erik Seidel.
Man Down Already

It didn't take long for our first player to fall and unfortunate honour falls upon Massimo Martinez.
He saw a 
flop with Andrew Robl before all the chips went flying in. Martinez had a strong holding with 
but Robl had him crushed with 
for a set. The board ran out 
and he was confirmed out after the stacks were counted down.
Selbst and Seidel Clash

Today marks Dominik Nitsche's 21st birthday and what a present he has been given from the Poker Gods, they have sandwiched him between Erik Seidel and Vanessa Selbst! So far he seems to have managed to stay away from the two poker Goliath's but Seidel and Selbst have clashed a couple of times during the first level.
On a board reading 
Seidel bet 1,200 and Selbst, on the button, moved all in for an extra 1,850 more. Seidel paused and made the call before turning over 
much to Selbst's dismay as she held the red version of Seidel's hand, 
. The river was inconsequential and the players chopped the pot.
Shortly afterwards Selbst raised and Seidel was her only caller. The flop came down 
, Seidel checked, Selbst continued and then showed 
for the nuts when Seidel folded.
Eames gets back on the horse

John Eames started today with hopes of winning his first bracelet as he was down to the final table of Event #2, the €1,090 No-Limit Hold'em. It didn't work out for him though as he busted in 7th for €22,449. Not one to get down on himself, he registered for this event, and is off to a winning start.
He raised to 125 from the cut-off and Winfred Yu defended his big blind to see a 
flop. Eames continued for 150 and Wu check-called. The turn came 
and Eames bet 350 but this time he was check-raised up to 1,450. He thought for a moment and called. The river fell 
and Wu checked to the Brit who bet 2,250.
Wu called but mucked upon seeing Eames' 
for a full-house.
MacPhee MacBust

Kevin MacPhee is out as well. We overheard him tell his exit hand to Dominik Nitsche.
Brian Powell opened to 150 and and picked up three callers (including MacPhee in the SB) en route to a 
flop. The action checked around to Hans Winzeler on the button and he bet 400. MacPhee called, as did one other.
The turn came MacPhee led out for 1,175. Only Winzeler called to the 
river where he snapped off MacPhee's over-jam for about 5,800. The American tabled for the nut flush, but his opponent tabled an unbeatable pair of red eights for quads.
