The first flight of Event #8: $1,700 No Limit Holdem Main Event at the World Series of Poker Circuit Playground has ended. A total of 270 players fired on Day 1a with only 31 moving on to Day 2, and after the dust settled, it was Khaly Dang who held the overwhelming chip lead with a massive 945,000 stack. The Ontario native accumulated enough chips to put on a clinic during bubble play. By the time the players were in the money, she was the chip leader, and she would only gain more as the night went on. She will head into Day 2 as the only remaining woman from the Day 1a field and will hope to keep the momentum going.

Some other notables made the money and will advance to Day 2. 2023 Bracelet winner Chanracy Khun (329,000) will look to add a ring to the case, Las Vegas native Antonio De La Cruz (765,000) sits on a healthy pile and will look to get ring #1, and Drew Scott (505,000) will look to get some hardware after multiple WSOP final table appearances.

The players will be combined with the remaining players from the other two Day 1 flights on Sunday as they return for Day 2. They all locked up a minimum cash of $2,900 and will go into Day two in the money and ready to fight for the first-place prize that is yet to be announced. The total guarantee on this event is $1,500,000, with $405,000 being added from this flight alone.

The next flight kicks off Friday morning at 11 a.m. local time. It is yet to be seen if another player can surpass Dang as the overall chip leader, but everyone will have some serious work to do if they plan on catching her.

Royal Flush and the Last Woman in the Field is Chip Leading!

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Khaly Dang
Khaly Dang

The action folded to Joel Malo in middle position who moved all in for his last 75,000. It then folded to Khaly Dang in late position who asked for a count and flicked in a call.

The cards hit their backs.

Joel Malo: K10 All in
Khaly Dang: 1010

Malo jokingly complained about his misfortune of running into a good hand but his mood would change a bit on the 2A3 flop that gave him the nut flush draw. "I got a good sweat!" he said as the dealer burned and turned the J giving him the flush. The fun would not be over as the river came the Q giving him the royal flush!

Malo scooped the pot but it was Dang, the last woman left in Day 1a, who is still the overwhelming chip leader after playing a great bubble strategy that helped her acquire a pile of chips and some ammo to keep the pressure on as the end of the day draws near...

Bubble Bursts In Pretty Gross Fashion

Level 16 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Maxim Kogay
Maxim Kogay

Maxim Kogay was in middle position and moved all in for his last 35,000 and his tournament life. It then folded all the way to Kyle Hucker in the big blind who called and the cards hit their backs.

Maxim Kogay: A7 All in
Kyle Hucker: A4

Kogay had Hucker dominated, but again, the deck wasn't having it. The 4JJ flop landed and Hucker jumped ahead. There were plenty of chop outs for Kogay but the 5 turn and 10 river did not bring the help he needed as Hucker dragged the pot and Kogay made his way to the rail.

The players are now in the money and will play till the end of level 17.

Zhang Tries to Five-Bet it Away; The Deck Wasn't Having It

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Jinrong Zhang

Pokernews was called over to hear about the following hand that just went down. The exact words from a few players were "The people reading it won't think its true" but they assured us it was.

The action was opened under the gun by Maxime Dube to 6,000. A player called in middle position before the action was on Jinrong Zhang in the big blind. He took a moment and then three-bet to 16,000.

Dube didn't waste much time before putting in a warm four-bet to 41,000.

The middle position player folded and then action was back on Zhang. After a moment in the tank he five-bet ripped it having Dube covered. Dube put in the chips for his tournament life.

Maxime Dube: AK
Jinrong Zhang: 104

The table recounted that they were in a bit of shock when the hands were tabled but that they were flabbergasted when the dealer peeled the cold Kx10x4x flop. Zhang hinted at the fact that the five-bet bluff wasn't his proudest moment but after the 5x turn and Qx river hit, he sent Dube to the rail and is now the overwhelming chip leader.

Sometimes the poker gods just have your back.

Level 13 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The action folded to Chi Do Nguyen in the cutoff who took a moment and then moved all in for about 65,000. It was then on Kyle Hucker on the button who didn't even ask for a count before moving all in for more. The remaining players folded and the cards hit their backs.

Kyle Hucker: AK

The full board ran out 34J104 and Hucker would scoop to send Nguyen to the rail.

Melanson Puts the Pressure On

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Dustin Melanson
Dustin Melanson

Sebastian Proulx opened in middle position to 2,000. He got called on the button by Nelson Miguel before the action was on Dustin Melanson who put in a three-bet to 7,000. Both players called.

The Q97 flop checked through to a 7 turn and Melanson put his foot back on the gas with a bet of 9,000. Only Proulx called on the button.

The 7 hit the river giving any pair a boat. Without thinking for too long, Melanson moved all in having his opponent covered. Proulx went into the tank but eventually he found the fold and Melanson dragged a healthy three-bet pot.

Playground's cardroom has a history of producing some of the top Canadian poker talent and there is a real chance that part of the old guard could snag the ring. There is also a chance that a young pro comes in to claim their thrown as the newest player to fear in the two-card streets. Either way they will be playing for big bucks and a ton of braging rights.
