What is the Poker Hall of Fame?

The Poker Hall of Fame is a virtual recognition of the very best players and personalities in poker. Each year, at least one new person is inducted into the HoF, and to date there are over 60 inductees, made up of some of the biggest and most recognisable names in the game.

How are members of the Poker Hall of Fame decided?

The members of the Poker Hall of Fame are decided by the WSOP. They release a list of 10 nominees, and then the existing, living members of the HoF will then vote on who they believe the next inductee should be. Nominations can be influenced by the public, but the ultimate decision of the nominee list lies with the WSOP.

What is the criteria to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame?

There are a few criteria a person must meet to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. After Tom Dwan was nearly added in 2009, then being just 23 years old, a rule was introduced where any inductee must be at least 40 years of age.

Inductees must also have played at high stakes, against ‘acknowledged top competition’ and ‘stood the test of time.’ Non-playing inductees must have made a significant contribution to poker or contributed to the growth or success of the game as a whole.
