Final Chance for Players to Enter APO Main Event

Welcome back to Doltone House Western Sydney at Club Marconi and the final starting flight of the $1 million GTD Australian Poker Open Main Event.

Yesterday saw 18 players from a starting field of 147 secure their spots in Saturday's Day 2, with the guarantee being met and the poker room full of poker players starting their journey to the APO title.

In the end it was Sayed Jabbour who narrowly pipped Dylan Wayne to bag the chip lead, with all survivors through to Day 2 and guaranteeing themselves a min-cash of $5,000.

Today, players will again receive 50,000 chips and there will be nine 40-minute levels of late registration and re-entry.

Day 1 will end once the field is down to 12.5%. If players bag multiple stacks, they will receive a min-cash payment for every stack bagged, with the largest stack brought forward to Day 2 on Saturday, March 30.

Kassam Talks His Way to a Win

Level 2 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Josh Duce opened to 1,000. Rehman Kassam tried to three-bet, but it was ruled a call. David Sebesfi and Daniel Embleton came along from the blinds.

"Put out nine-seven-seven dealer," asked Kassam as the flop came Q♦10♦2♦. It checked to Kassam who bet 1,200. Both Duce and Embleton called.

"I need the blackest of black," said Kassam as the turn brought the 5♦ and each player checked. The river was the K♥. It checked to Kassam.

"I don't have a flush, but that probably means you don't have a flush, therefore..." he said before moving all in for 15,000. Both players folded and Kassam took down the pot.

David Bowen was all in for 12,700 and an additional Freddo chocolate bar accompanying his chips. He was up against Dean Boskovic.

Peter Lin opened to 3,000 and got calls in the blinds from Nicholas Cooper and Bert Perry.

The flop Q♠6♥5♠ checked around and the turn was the K♠. Cooper checked and Perry bet 7,500. Lin quickly raised to 15,000 and Cooper folded.

Perry called and check-called 15,000 again on the 9♥ river. Lin turned over J♠8♠ for a flush and took down the pot.

Klinger Doubles Through Ibrahim

Erden Ibrahim opened to 3,500 from early position. Daniel Klinger three-bet to 10,000 from the cutoff and Ibrahim called.

The flop came 9♥8♥5♠ and Ibrahim checked. Klinger thought before moving all in for 30,000. Ibrahim wasted no time in calling.

Ibrahim had flopped the nut flush draw and was up against the overpair from Klinger. The turn J♠ took away some of Ibrahim's flush outs and the river K♦ bricked, seeing Klinger double up.

Rypinski Vying for Chip Lead

Both Slav Rypinski and David Sebesfi were in action on a Q♦9♥4♥2♥ board and Rypinski check-called 10,500 from his opponent.

The river was the Q♣ and Rypinski checked. Sebesfi bet 15,000 and Rypinski called, turning over Q♠5♠ for a rivered full house.

Sebesfi flashed K♦Q♥ for trip queens and mucked, with Rypinski moving above 200,000 in chips to contend for the overall chip lead.

Otter Running Up a Stack Again

Zelig Otter had a decent stack yesterday but was eliminated by eventual end-of-day chip leader Sayed Jabbour. He's sitting with close to 200,000 chips today and opened to 4,000 with calls from Meng Guangrui, Nicholas Cooper and Bert Perry.

The flop came A♣K♠3♣. It checked to Otter who continued for 7,000. Guangrui was the only caller.

The pair checked down the 4♠Q♣ runout.

"Queen," announced Otter, with Guangrui showing A♠9♦ and taking down the pot with top pair.

A Message to All APO Players: Thank You!

A brief announcement was made in the tournament room, with the guarantees being surpassed in all three marquee events: The APO Main Event, the Platinum Players Championship and the Diamond Cup.

Operations manager Lauren Mooney thanked all the players who have worked to support the entire APO event.

"On behalf of the entire management team, the dealers, Doltone House and Club Marconi, we just wanted to say thank you to every player who has supported us over the last months," she said to a packed tournament room.

"Thank you for the support in all our satellites, and thank you to all players who have talked about us at every event for the last six months. We're so thankful.

"We hope everybody enjoys this event and the next three days as much as we have done.

"Best of luck and thank you so much!"

Vuksanovic Soars into Chip Lead

Ashton Campbell was spotted disconsolately walking away from the tournament area, with Georgina Vuksanovic the major beneficiary of his chips.

Having previously held close to 400,000, Vuksanovic capitalised with 8x8x against the 6x2x of Campbell on a 4x4x6x8x board to send him to the rail and take over as chip leader with just 44 players remaining.

Singh called and the flop was A♦9♥4♣. Onay continued for 25,000 and Singh called.

The turn was the 10♦ and Onay bet 114,000. Singh shoved for 172,000 and Onay called.
