Vaughn and Jiang Under 10 Big Blinds, Still

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Since hand-for-hand play started more than two hours ago, Anthony Vaughn and David Jiang have been the shortest stacks in the field.

For a moment after doubling up Vaughn, and before he busted, Mel Lyon was the shortest. Other than those few hands, Jiang and Vaughn have been the shortest of the stacks.

They have either gotten shoves through when they needed to, or doubled when they finally got low enough to get called and they stayed ahead. The two players have managed to capture at least tenth place money ($2,800). Their patience paid off when Scott Heiser got busted with over 100,000 chips to burst the bubble and they outlasted Mel Lyon.

Mel Lyon Eliminated in 11th Place ($2,240)

Mel Lyon - 11th Place
Mel Lyon - 11th Place

Mel Lyon was eliminated in 11th place and took home $2,240 for his trouble.

He just doubled up Anthony Vaughn. Vaughn got short and doubled up again through Jim Keating. Keating had {8-}{8-} against the {10-}{10-} of Vaughn. Vaughn held and doubled.

On the next hand, Keating got all in with Mel Lyon. The hand started when Denny Grizzle raised to 7,000 and Lyon put his last 11,000 in. Keating was next to act and reraised to 36,000. Grizzle folded.

Lyon had {a-Spades}{q-Spades} and was at risk. Keating had {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}. The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and sent Lyon to the rail.

Vaughn Doubles Through Lyon

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Mel Lyon has hit a slow decline in the last few levels and on this hand goes even lower after doubling up Anthony Vaughn.

Vaughn shoved 13,000 with {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and Lyon called from the big blind with {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

The board ran out {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{a-Hearts} and Vaughn would double up.

Scott Heiser

Scott Heiser is the bubble after getting all in preflop against Mike Melkersen who raised from the button.

Melkerson raised to 8,000 on the button and Heiser reraised to 17,500. Melkerson four-bet to 50,000 and Heiser five-bet shoved. Melkerson called.

Heiser had {k-}{k-} and Melkersen was behind with {q-}{q-}. Melkersen quickly took the lead and didn't give it up when a {q-} came on the flop.

Sites Set on Moneymaker

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Mike Sites
Mike Sites

Chris Moneymaker and Mike Sites have been two of the more active players during hand-for-hand play. On this hand, Moneymaker loses a big pot to Sites.

The action started when Moneymaker raised preflop from the button to 6,500. Sites raised to 17,000 from the small blind and Moneymaker called.

The flop was {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Sites bet 20,000. Moneymaker called.

The turn was the {3-Spades} and Sites bet 27,000 this time. Moneymaker called.

The river was the {j-Hearts} and Sites checked. Moneymaker bet 50,000 and Sites snap called and showed {q-}{q-}.

Moneymaker came up just short with {j-}{8-}.
