On the opening day of the Irish Open, legendary commentator Joe Stapleton made the final table of the 6-max event, picking up one of his biggest ever live cashes.
PokerStars Blog caught up with Stapes to find out more about his win and his new role as an official PokerStars ambassador.
Robert Willis had three-bet Thomas Murphy preflop and the latter had called, leading to a pot of 8,000 chips. Murphy then check-called Willis' 4,700-chip bet on the A♥8♥6♦ board before doing the same for the 5,000 bet on the 4♦ turn.
On the 6♠ river, Murphy checked once more and called when Willis moved all in for his final 5,500 chips. Willis showed A♦A♣ for the best full house and Murphy only briefly flashed his cards before tossing them into the muck.
The action was caught on the turn on a board of K♦Q♦10♣6♣. Stephen Spence made a bet of 13,300 from middle position and was called by Shane McGowan on the button.
Spence then tossed his final 5,300 chips in on the 2♠ river and McGowan instantly called again.
Spence could only show A♦9♦ for a missed flushdraw, and McGowan raked in the large pot with Q♠J♥ for second pair.
Mark Roovers checked from the big blind on a board of 8♦4♥4♣10♠6♦. His opponent was Samuel Klocker in early position, who made a bet of 11,000 chips into the pot of 16,600.
Roovers slammed in his final 11,800 chips and Klocker made the call for just 800 more. Roovers showed J♥8♠ for a pair of eights, but Klocker outkicked him with his A♥8♥ and sent the Dutchman to an early exit.
Tero Laurila checked out of the big blind on a flop of A♦5♣8♠, after which button Samm Wiggins made a bet of 1,500. Laurila then jammed all in for 7,300 and Wiggins looked him up with a call.
Tero Laurila: A♠5♥
Samm Wiggins: A♣7♥
Wiggins turned some extra outs against Laurila's two pair with the 4♠, but the 9♥ river sealed the deal as Laurila booked his double-up, leaving Wiggins with just ten big blinds.
In the 822nd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by WPT Global,Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip.
That includes Nik Airball's 20-minute tank in a big hand on The Lodge Poker Live Stream, which prompted Doug Polk to take action. That led to a discussion on pet peeves at the table, and in Mike's case, the pet part is quite literal.
The crew also plays the first edition of PokerNews Plinko, discusses Chad's poker thrift store "Tweet of the Week," and talks about the current state of poker given Bitcoin is at an all-time high. From there, they dive into the wild journey of poker vlogger Corey Eyring, who is risking his entire net worth in an attempt to win $500,000 by the end of the year. Whatever amount he ends up with, the plan is to place it all on a single roulette bet of either red or black. Chad chatted with Eyring about his crazy quest and highlighted various clips throughout the episode.
