Day 3 Completed

Congratulations to David Woo, Event #39 Champion!

David Woo - Event #39 Champion
David Woo - Event #39 Champion
David Woo arrived at this final table in the middle of the pack, but quickly claimed a substanial chip lead after eliminating Curtis Early and Thom Werthmann in a double-KO when he flopped the nut straight.

Nicknamed "The Magnificent" by his friends, 30-year old Woo is a poker professional from Stone Mountain, Georgia. He made the final table of this tournament last year and he not only bested his fifth-place finish in that event today, but quadrupled his career tournament earnings and won his first WSOP bracelet.

When asked about his approach to this final table, Woo said: "My strategy going in was, 'Don't make it a shove-fest.' Play small pots and go from there. When there's play involved, poker is a beautiful thing."

After his fifth-place finish last year, Woo admitted to being so disappointed at not winning the bracelet that he took his $118,000 in winnings and, "Dusted it all off at the blackjack table in half an hour." This time, he's adamant about bringing the whole check home to Georgia.

Congratulations to our newest bracelet winner, David Woo!

David Woo Wins Event #39 ($631,656), Matt Wood Eliminated in 2nd Place ($389,844)

Matt Wood - 2nd Place
Matt Wood - 2nd Place
Hand #142

Matt Wood has the button in Seat 7. He raises to 360,000 and Woo calls. The flop is {9-Hearts} {5-Spades} {4-Diamonds}. Woo leads out for a 175,000 bet and Wood raises to 675,000. Woo quickly announces a reraise of an additional 1,000,000, sending Wood into the tank. After thinking for a few minutes, Wood moves all in for 2.4 million, and Woo is faced with calling an additional 685,000 into a pot that has already swelled to 4,785,000.

Woo looks genuinely conflicted as he rises out of his seat and begins pacing around. Finally, he makes the call.

Wood: {9-Spades} {6-Diamonds}

Woo: {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}

Wood is behind with a pair of nines to Woo's pocket tens. The turn is the {Q-Spades} and Wood's supporters start desperately calling for a six or a nine. The river, though is the {4-Clubs} and David Woo is our champion and newest WSOP bracelet winner! He'll take home $631,656.

Matt Wood is our runner-up, earning $389,844.
