Event 13 - $5,300 Heads Up Championship

Day 1b Completed

Quarter Finals Draw

Here is the draw for the Heads Up Championship quarter finals:

Lee Nelson vs Roy Winston
Masaaki Kagawa vs Mike "Timex" McDonald
Jeff Garza vs David Sonelin
Alexey Popov vs Xuan Nguyen

Play will recommence at 2:30 p.m local time with each of the remaining eight players guaranteed at least AU$20,000 in prize money!

Nguyen vs Le - The Battle Continues

Xuan Nguyen had Joe Le down to a short stack after Nguyen's set of fives were good against Le's middle pair.

However Le was able to turn things around winning a race a few hands later with {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Once again Nguyen held pocket fives, but the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts} to give Le a double up to reclaim the lead once again!

These two are playing some high quality, intense heads-up poker and are not willing to give an inch to their opponent!

Joe Le Goes 1-0

In an epic heads-up contest, Joe Le finally found a decent hand to call the shove of Xuan Nguyen. Le had {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Nguyen was in trouble with his {Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

The board arrived {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Le was ecstatic to finally win the match and take a 1-0 lead!

Alexey Popov Advances to Quarter Finals!

Alexey Popov Advances
Alexey Popov and Justin Schwartz had been waiting for a big hand to collide with, and after Schwartz moved his short stack into the middle, Popov looked down at {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and made an easy call. Schwartz flipped over {K-Spades}{9-Clubs} and would need some help.

However the board arrived {5-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and Popov wins the match 2-1 to advance to tomorrow's quarter finals!

Joe Le Doubles Twice

Joe Le was short-stacked against Xuan Nguyen but has just doubled up twice to get back to nearly even once again!

Le doubled with {A-Clubs}{5-Spades} vs Nguyen's {K-Hearts}{8-Spades} when he spiked two pair, and Le then had his pocket tens hold against Nguyen's pocket threes!
