UBOC5: Joshua “PBDRUNKS” VanDuyn Wins Event #1 and Final Tables the Mini; Matt Graham Bubbles Final Table and More

The Ultimate Bet Online Poker Championship Series returned Wednesday with its fifth installment and the first two of the tournament schedule’s 20 events, which boasts a combined $4 million in guaranteed prize pools. The Mini-UBOC, which offers the same tournament at one-tenth of the buy-in, also kicked off and ran simultaneously with the UBOC. The UBOC has proved to be one of the most popular online series with the winners receiving not only a nice payday, but a championship watch as well. In addition, anyone who manages to eliminate a Team UB pro receives $200 in tournament money along with a UBOC T-shirt.

The first event of UBOC5, $300 + $20 Sniper No-Limit Hold’em, kicked off with 903 entrants and generated a prize pool of $243,810. The event drew a number of UB pros including Brandon Cantu (806th), Trishelle Cannatella (681st), Eric Baldwin (679th), Annie Duke (417th), Tiffany Michelle (387th), Joe Sebok (246th), Billy Kopp (211th), Bryan Devonshire (71st) and Matt Graham, who bubbled the final table in 10th place. In the end, it was Joshua “PBDRUNKS” VanDuyn who defeated Felipe “IMPROVED” Montenegro heads up to take down the first UBOC5 event and the $54,759.72 first-place prize. Coincidentally, VanDuyn also made the final table of Mini-UBOC5 Event #1, where he ultimately finished seventh and added $1,173.15 to his bankroll.

Michael “SPIN31” Spinasanta, who began playing poker just a short three years ago, hosted event #1. He began with low buy-in tournaments and worked his way to the higher limits, amassing $544,015 in lifetime winnings. SPIN31 played host to a successful event that drew 1,422 entrants and generated a prize pool of $35,550, well above the $20,000 guaranteed. SPIN31 failed to make the money, finishing in 613th place. Lots of people still willing to give money to cheats (Ultimate Bet not any of the players), crazy. I wonder how many more scandals it will take to actually convince people that this site should have disappeared by now.
