Nine-Day WPT Amsterdam Poker Festival to Take Place at Holland Casino from May 8-16

WPT Amsterdam

Back in March, the World Poker Tour and Holland Casino announced a four-year partnership that would see both the WPT Main Tour and WPT National events visit the Netherlands. The first event in the partnership, the WPT Amsterdam, will run from May 8-16, and is already lining up to be a success as the €330 WPT Warm Up, the first event on the 14-event schedule, has sold out.

The premiere event of the festival is the €3,300 Main Event, which starts on May 11. This Main Event will feature two starting days and players will be allowed one reentry per day. The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to live report the Main Event. Also on the schedule for WPT Amsterdam are a €6,000 High Roller with unlimited reentry until the start of Day 2, a €1,500 Big Stack with single reentry, and several other events ranging in buy-ins of €300-€750.

"The Dutch have a long and storied history in poker, and it's great to finally see the World Poker Tour bring the first international tournament to the country of Holland," said PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters. "WPT Amsterdam will without a doubt be a great event, and the timing serves very well for traveling players to catch a short flight from Monaco following the conclusion of the EPT Grand Final."

As previously stated here on PokerNews, the WPT Amsterdam is conveniently scheduled to piggyback off of the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final, which concludes on May 8. This not only gives players the chance to play another major live poker tournament, but also allows them to stay in Europe for the 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker held on PokerStars and planned for May 10-24.

"Everyone is very excited, especially because they will get to see Amsterdam in the spring, which is actually the perfect time before leaving to the US for the World Series of Poker," Hermance Blum, general manager at WPT Europe, told PokerNews.

She went on to say, "People really loved how Holland Casino hosted them during the Master Classics, so I can tell they expect nothing but the best poker experience with our two brands partnering together. We can tell WPT Amsterdam has already become a regular feature on the European circuit. It just instantly clicked."

Last year, the WPT visited the Netherlands for the very first time with the WPT National Valkenburg, an event that will return at the end of September for a WPT National. In the inaugural event, Niels van Leeuwen topped a field of 402 entries to win WPT National Valkenburg for €40,000. That included defeating a tough final table that included Marcel Luske and Joep van den Bijgaart.

"We are proud to announce our partnership with Holland Casino, and to bring both the WPT Main Tour and the WPT National Tour to two world-class properties in the Netherlands," said WPT President Adam Pliska. "The Dutch have a rich history in poker, including various final table appearances on the World Poker Tour, and we look forward to creating more memories with top professionals and aspiring players alike over the next four years."
