The APPT Expands in Australia with Addition of All ANZPT Events

APPT

On Monday, Global Poker Tours Ltd. announced that the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) will expand its presence in Australia and include all Australian & New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) events under its umbrella. The APPT is already the largest live poker tour in the region, but it will now include several more events starting with Season 10.

The ANZPT will hit Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, Oct. 8-20, with live coverage of the AU$2,300 Main Event right here on PokerNews, but this will be the last event before the changes take effect. Last year's ANZPT Melbourne Main Event field attracted 516 players and set a new record for largest ANZPT tournament.

"I have been very proud to be a part of the ANZPT," said APPT and ANZPT President Danny McDonagh. "There have been many memorable stops including Darwin, Gold Coast, and Queenstown together with the big city venues such as Sydney and Melbourne. The tour has preserved the freeze out format in the $2,000 range, a decision vindicated by how popular the series has been with players. I hope ANZPT Melbourne at the fabulous Crown Melbourne complex can set a new prize pool record as ANZPT's final event, beating the million dollar prize pool achieved just last season.”

The next stop on the APPT will also feature live reporting coverage on PokerNews. From Oct. 30 through Nov. 15, the 2015 Asia Championship of Poker will take place at City of Dreams Macau, and PokerNews will be covering the HK$100,000 Main Event (approx. $13,000) starting on Monday, Nov. 9.

Looking ahead, the first stop on Season 10 of the expanded APPT will be the 2016 Aussie Millions, also to take place at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Jan. 13 through Feb. 1.
