Roy Peters and Brandon King Win First Two Run It Up Reno Events

Roy Peters

On Tuesday, Jason Somerville's 2015 Run It Up Reno festival kicked off with the first two events of the schedule. First up was the $125 Tuesday Takeoff No-Limit Hold'em that started at midday, and then the $85 All-In-or-Fold No-Limit Hold'em capped the night as the evening affair.

Roy Peters Wins Tuesday Takeoff

Roy Peters was one of 170 entries in the opening event. When it came time for the final table, Peters sat fourth in chips amongst the final nine and was looking to pad his poker résumé that consisted of nearly $175,000 in live tournament earnings. As it turned out, Peters found himself as the last competitor standing when the dust settled and earned himself the $5,885 top prize and winner's trophy.

Also reaching the final table was Jesse Capps (3rd - $2,185), Dan O'Brien (4th - $1,539), William Recker (5th - $1,188), Jason Unsain (6th - $903), Skip Ferguson (7th - $703), Jesse Fullen (8th - $523), and Lance Donnell (9th - $371). The tournament generated a prize pool of $19,000.

Peters was part of the group of entrants that opted into the Run It Up warrior last-longer contest, by sporting a piece of Run It Up apparel in the event. For that, Peters earned himself and additional prize in the form of a $565 Main Event seat.

Peters' best career result came in 2010 when he took second place in the $2,100 Championship from the World Poker Challenge right here in Reno, Nevada. There Peters earned $38,745, and this result will come in as his sixth highest cash ever. Peters defeated Valerie Hanley in second place to earn the victory.

Brandon King Captures All-In-or-Fold Title

The second event of Jason Somerville's 2015 Run It Up Reno series from the Peppermill in Reno, Nevada, turned out to be an exciting affair. The $85 All-In-or-Fold No-Limit Hold'em tournament surpassed all expectations when it draw a raucous crowd that pumped out 112 entries and a prize pool of $14,390. At the end of all the carnage at about 1:30 a.m. local time, Brandon King proved the last man standing to win the $4,748 top prize and the right to be called champion.

Also finishing at the final table were James Wehe (4th - $1,223), Joe Nelligan (5th - $971), Michael Kinney (6th - $755), Garret Purdy (7th - $612), T.J. Dillashaw ( 8th - $468), and Anthony Summers ( 9th - $324).

Not only did King packet nearly $5,000 from the prize pool, but he was also the last Run It Up warrior standing sporting Run It Up gear that earned him a $565 Main Event buy-in as part of the last-longer prize. To earn the victory, King defeated Jamey Johnson in heads-up play.

William Recker finished in third place, and his performance thus far shouldn't be overlooked. Not only did his third-place finish in this event earn him $1,799, but Recker placed fifth in the $125 Tuesday Takeoff opening event earlier today for $1,188. That put his total earnings from 2015 Run It Up Reno just shy of $3,000 with plenty more events to come.

Next up on the slate of 2015 Run It Up Reno poker tournaments will be the $125 Survivor No-Limit Hold'em that starts at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews.com for continued coverage from this event.
