Day 2 Completed

Hemingway Leads Final 17 After Day 2 of the Main Event

Level 27 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Jared Hemingway

Day 2 of the Texas State Main Event was one to remember as 218 hopefuls started the day dreaming of the grand prize and when the dust settled at the end of the day after 14 hours of play, just 17 remained.

Leading the way in chips to end the day was Jared Hemingway who bagged 11,325,000. He started to accumulate a large stack with eight tables left as his chip counts rose to one of the higher ones. After a slight dip he was able to rise again during the last three tables and put himself in pole position at the end of play.

A player who had one of the more notable days was second place bagger, Christopher Doan who finished with 10,000,000. The start of day chip leader was involved in many big hands throughout the day, rapidly rising his stack early, plateauing for a while and then shooting it up again late in the day.

Michael Wang, Gabriel Andrade and Nick Shkolnik rounded out the top 5 in chips, each bagging large stacks as well, all over 9 million.

Many players were cut down over the course of the day to create the final 17. Including Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer who hit the rail early in the day.

Matt Berkey was taken out in 78th place and Darren Elias made a deeper run, making it down to the final four tables before succumbing in 30th place.

The 17 payers will return for the final day of the main event at 2 p.m. local time to Level 29.

PokerNews will bring you the conclusion in its entirety.

Michael Wang

It was a preflop flip for Joshua Calvert's tournament life as he held {9-}{9-} against the {a-}{j-} of Michael Wang.

He was safe on the flop as it came {7-}{3-}{10-}. But the turn was not safe as a {j-} came off and the river was a {2-} and Wang gathered in his fallen opponent's chips.

Action arrived on the river as the board showed {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

Gabriel Andrade bet 1,000,000 into a pot of around the same amount over to Tony Potis who called after a few moments.

Andrade tabled the {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} which was the winner as Potis mucked and Andrade added more chips to his growing stack.
