The Final Hand of the 2007 WPT World Championship
The Final Hand of the 2007 WPT World Championship

Carlos Mortensen Wins the 2007 WPT World Championship!

Hand #182 - Carlos Mortensen has the button, he raises to about 5 million, Morrison moves all in, and Mortensen calls with {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Morrison shows {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, and Mortensen will have to improve to win the tournament on this hand.

The flop comes {7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and Mortensen needs a king, a jack, or something runner-runner.

The turn card is -- the {J-Clubs}! Mortensen makes a pair of jacks to take the lead, and he is one card away from history. Morrison needs an ace or a four to stay alive.

The river card is -- the {3-Diamonds}. It's over! Mortensen wins the hand -- and the tournament -- with a pair of jacks. Kirk Morrison finishes in second place, earning $2,011,135.

Carlos Mortensen wins the 2007 WPT World Championship, earning $3,970,415 and cementing his place in history as the only player to win both major poker championships -- the WSOP and the WPT.

    Congratulations, El Matador!

    90 Hands of Heads-Up

Has it been 90 hands already? The chiplead has swung back and forth several times. Mortensen still looks calm and cool. However, Morrison looks like a wreck. His passive play is costing him a shot at winning the WPT Championship. Mortensen's fearlessness is his biggest asset at this point in the tournament.
