2007 WSOP Player of the Year Tom Schneider had an excellent first day, establishing a clear lead when the Day 1 chip counts were officially tallied. Schneider's total of 142,300 was well ahead of second-place Gus Hansen's119,500, with Frank Kassela at 106,800 the only other 100,000-plus stack.
