Event 5 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha

Day 1 Completed

Day One Comes to a Close

Jason Mercier - 227,300
Jason Mercier - 227,300
Pot limit Omaha is a game notorious for attracting action junkies and today was no exception. 809 players started the day and immediately got to work with large chip stacks being built in short amounts of time and a flurry of eliminations happening throughout the day. In fact, so many eliminations that with only two minutes left in the last level we were down to the final 81 players – all of which are in the money.

Jason Mercier was able to grab a monstrous chip lead over the last few levels of the day where he abused short stacks at his table. He climbed all the way up to 227,000 – over 88,000 more than his closest competitor.

Action will resume tomorrow at 2pm PST and continue until a final table is reached. Join us here at PokerNews.com for all the action live, as it happens.

The Bubble

This tournament has showed no signs of slowing until right now.

Starting with 809 players, by the end of nine, one hour levels 88% of the field had dropped. However, now that the bubble looms just seven players away, everyone has gone into nit-mode. Only seven players have been eliminated in 40 minutes.

Mercier Picks Off Another - Extends Chip Lead

A player holding {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} is all in against Jason Mercier after a flop of {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {4-Hearts} . Mercier is behind with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {6-Hearts} but can catch a heart, king, queen or ten to take the lead.

The {K-Hearts} falls on the turn giving the all in player a set, but Mercier the heart flush.

A meaningless {3-Diamonds} comes on the river and Mercier knocks out yet another player.

He has a large chip lead over the rest of the field with 223,000.
