Andreas Krause wins!

A field of 181 players entered this year's Full Tilt Poker Merit Cyprus Classic. After six intense days of poker, all of the chips are stacked in front of just one man. That man, Andreas Krause, has just knocked out Mathieu Clavet, sealing the deal and capturing the title of Champion here in Cyprus.

Krause bested some of the best names in poker these last few days, coming out on top against some serious competition. Among the many amateurs in the field were a number of big-name pros, including David Benyamine, Tommy Vedes, Sorel Mizzi, Carter Phillips, and November Niners Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, John Dolan, John Racener, and Filippo Candio.

The battle was hard fought today as well, with fierce action throughout. Krause came into the day fourth in chips and certainly played with one goal in mind; winning the tournament. He built up his stack, he was on the short stack, and when the dust settled at the end of the day, he was the only man left standing with chips.

For his efforts this week, Andreas Krause will take home $415,780!

Once again, a flurry of preflop raises led to the cards being on their backs and a chance for Andreas Krause to win the tournament.

The flop kept Krause's pair in the lead. When the hit the turn, Clavet's supporters were vehemently calling for an ace or the last three in the deck, but it was the that fell and clinched the hand for Krause.

Mathieu Clavet's impressive run has come to an end with a runner-up finish for $285,850.

Once again, all of a sudden everyone jumped to their feet as all the money was in the middle between Andreas Krause and Mathieu Clavet on the flop of . Clavet held the and Krause the .

The turn brought the to give Clavet some more outs to a flush and then the river completed the board with the . Krause doubled up to about 4.5 million in chips.

After a series of raises preflop, Mathieu Clavet was all in for 1,650,000 with against Andreas Krause's

The flop came down , providing little help to Clavet. The turn kept Krause ahead, but the peeled off on the river as Clavet's cheering section erupted.

Clavet is now the chip leader with 3,320,000.

Krause Extends His Lead

Andreas Krause raised to 160,000 on the button and Mathieu Clavet called from the big blind.

The flop came down and Clavet checked to Krause who bet 300,000. Clavet called and the turn came the . Both players checked and the popped off on the river. Clavet checked and Krause fired 450,000 on the river, getting a quick call from Clavet.

Krause tabled for kings up, good enough to win the pot and move to about 4.4 million.
