Day 2 Completed

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Charles Tonne - can he continue his crushing ways at tomorrow's final table?
Charles Tonne - can he continue his crushing ways at tomorrow's final table?

Day 2 of Event 11: $1,5000 Pot-Limit Omaha. of the World Series of Poker has come to an end, with just nine players surviving out of the original 117 who started the day. Leading the field is Charles Tonne.

There was no shortage of big names and notable pros who began on day 2, which included Noah Boeken, Isaac Baron, Sorel Mizzi, Shannon Shorr, Terrence Chan, and Tristan Wade. However, the eliminations came swiftly, with more than 40 players sent to the rail by the beginning of the second level.

Of those mentioned, only Tristan Wade survived to make the final table. Wade won the WSOPE No Limit Hold’em Shootout event in 2011 and has amassed nearly $1 million in tournament earnings. He will come into day 3 eighth in chips with 150,000. Also joining him will be online high-stakes cash game specialist Vincent Van Der Fluit (951,000), who won a WCOOP event in 2011.

Another notable elimination was “last-woman-standing” Susie Zhao (15th). Zhao had flirted with the chip lead several times today and was the lone woman in the event for a majority of day 2. Zhao met her end in level 18 when she ran into the full house of Galen Kester.

Tonne rode his momentum as chip leader coming into day 2 without slowing down. He will bring 1,121,000 with him to the final table, which will put him in prime position to take down the final table.

Slow Going

With just one more elimination to go until we have our final table, our remaining ten players are seemingly hanging on tight to avoid being the "final table bubble boy."

Not much notable action has occurred other than Brian Garbe, who was critically short-stacked, but managed to triple up. Stay tuned as fetch our final elimination of the night before bagging and tagging.

Mitch Mitchener Eliminated in 11th Place ($14,954)

Mitch Mitchener
Mitch Mitchener

We caught up with the action on a {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} flop, where Mitch Mitchener check-called a 40,000 bet from Alex Dovzchenko.

The turn brought a {Q-Diamonds} and both players checked. However, when the {2-Spades} fell on the river, Mitchener led out for 75,000. Dovzchenko responded by raising pot, which was enough to put Mitchener all in. Mitchener called and hands were revealed.

Mitchener: {Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for queens-full.
Dovzchenko: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for kings-full.

Mitchener fell victim to the cooler and was eliminated in 11th place.
