Gus Hansen Eliminated in 23rd Place ($50,000 AUD)

Sorry ladies (and probably even a few men); Gus Hansen has been eliminated from the main event.

Hansen was knocked down to 50,000 in chips after getting it all in with pocket nines against an opponent's {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} on an {8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Spades} board. Gus' opponent turned a jack to steal the pot, leaving him short stacked.

A few hands later, he got it all in holding {K-Spades}{2-Clubs} from the small blind and Tyron Krost woke up to pocket nines in the big.

The ensuing board ran out {J-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} and Krost's nines held up to send the Team Full Tilter home in 23rd place.

Matthew Rolfe Eliminated in 36th Place ($30,000 AUD)

Gus Hansen has just moved back over the 400,000 mark in chips with the elimination of opponent Matthew Rolfe in 36th place.

Rolfe opened the pot with a raise to 20,000 and when the action folded around the table to Hansen in the big blind, he moved all in putting Rolfe to a decision for the remainder of his chips. Rolfe made the call, tabling {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} and soon found out that he'd be racing Hansen's pocket sevens.

The ensuing board ran out {6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Hansen's sevens held up to win the pot, eliminating Rolfe from the tournament.

After the hand, Hansen stacked up just over 400,000 in chips.

    Shak and Hansen Square Off

From under the gun, Dan Shak made it 10,000 to go and found a caller in Gus Hansen.

The flop brought the {6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and the {9-Hearts} which prompted both players to check.

On the {10-Clubs} turn, Hansen made a bet of 14,000 and was called.

The {q-Spades} river was checked by both players and Shak showed aces and Hansen threw his cards in the muck.

    Hansen Takes a Small Hit

Gus Hansen has just dropped to 255,000 in chips from 317,000 after losing a recent flippish sort of situation up in Studio 3.

Hansen opened the pot with a raise to 9,000 and his opponent moved all in over the top for 61,500. Hansen made the call holding {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and it proved to be a good one as his opponent revealed a meager {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

Still, Gus' opponent's cards were very live, and they got a whole lot stronger after the flop came {5-Spades}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, giving him bottom pair.

The turn and river then finished out {6-Clubs}, {4-Diamonds} and the fives held up, knocking Gus back down below the 300k mark.

    The Great Dane is Charging

Gus Hansen is making a charge for his second Aussie Millions Main Event title. It's unclear how the action went down, but all of the money was in the pot preflop.

    Hansen: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
    Opponent: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The flop could not be much worse for Hansen, coming down {10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts} giving his opponent an open-ended straight flush draw. You win poker tournaments by fading these though, and fade is exactly what Gus did. The turn was the {5-Spades}, and the river the {k-Spades} resulting in the dealer shipping the pot over to Hansen, who now has 337,000.

    Gus Gets Into Aken(s)head

Gus Hansen raised from UTG to 4,800 and James Akenhead called out of the small blind. The two saw a {j-?}{3-?}{5-?} and both Hansen, and Akenhead checked.

The turn was the {8-?} and Akenhead checked again. Hansen slid out a bet of 5,100 and Akenhead made the call.

The river was the {a-?}, and for a third time Akenhead checked to Hansen, who bet out 17,500. Akenhead made the call, and Hansen flipped over pocket jacks for a flopped set. Akenhead mucked and was down to 15,000.

Gus Hansen is now up to 145,000.

Hansen's Hand Holds For a Double

Gus Hansen got all his chips in preflop against Pierre Aoukar. Gus was ahead with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} against Aoukar's {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

The board came down {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Hansen is up to 95,000.

Pierre Aoukar on the other hand, who came in as the chip leader continues to slide and is now on less than 50,000.

Shortly after the hand the feature table was broken. At this point it is completely empty, with the exception of a dealer.

    Sleeping Beauty is Back

After leaving the tournament a few hours a go to have a nap, Gus Hansen is back in the poker room and ready to continue his day 1a charge. We'll be sure to let you know if he's got all the sleep out of his eyes.

    Setting the Scene

The poker room is absolutely jam packed, full of players, spectators, tournament supervisors, and various members of the media. Amidst all of the chaos, a line has formed leading up to a table at the top of the stairs where Gus Hansen is stationed, signing autographs and posing for pictures with star-struck poker fans.

At the moment, it's practically impossible to walk through the alley that divides the poker room in two. A house band is blasting rock music throughout the halls of the Las Vegas Room and albeit a cliche, there is genuine excitement in the air.

Play was scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., but judging by the scene on the floor, it's looking like we probably won't get started until 1:00 p.m. or shortly after.

Hang tight! We'll keep you posted.

Shak Not Buying What Gus is Selling

Dan Shak raised from the button to 23,000 and Gus Hansen reraised to 55,000 from the small blind. Shak then re-potted the action when it got back to him and Hansen folded.
