WSOP Updates – 'Extra Events' provide light atmosphere - and a Bracelet

Yes there is a Main Event going on today, it's Day Four but there is another tournament going on as well. At 10 AM this morning Event #41 a $1,500 NLHE WSOP bracelet event began in the back of the main room. There were approximately 975 starters including many of the name professionals. I saw Doyle Brunson sharing a table with Mike Caro and Clonie Gowen seated next to John Juanda. The always late arriving Phil Hellmuth showed up to be seated at Gavin Smith's table and shortly thereafter Johnny Chan arrived to take a seat at the next table.

Discussion soon broke out about the "ten bracelet" club, with Gavin wondering:

"Why doesn't Johnny Chan have thirty bracelets?"

Phil added: "…and why doesn't Doyle have forty?"

Unfortunately the Phil&Gavin table was on the break rotation and the boys were dispersed throughout the room. When I caught up with Gavin later, he was raking in a sizeable pot and he looked up to say:

"Well either me or the Grinder are going to have a lot of chips in a little bit."

Yes, there was Michael Mizrachi seated at the far end of the table.

"It's probably going to be me;" Gavin laughed "he can't help himself."

Also in the field today: Allen Kessler, Barry Greenstein, Jason Stern, Todd Brunson, Mike Matusow, Greg Raymer, Fabrice Soulier, Doug Lee, Chris Ferguson, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Maureen Feduniak, James Worth, Isabelle Mercier, Jennifer Tilly, Richard Tatalovich, Jean Robert Bellande, Marco Trianello, Mel Judah, William Chen.

These "after the Main" tournaments are almost as much fun as re-buy events. The players are loose, well at least the pros are, they are having fun and sometime tomorrow someone gets a nice shiny gold bracelet. What could be more fun?

Ed Note: What could be more fun than playing at Party Poker?? Not much, I guess
