WSOP Updates – Event #32, $2,000 Seven Card Stud — Priegen, Negreanu Lead Opening Day

Play began in the Poker Pavilion on Tuesday with the start of Event #32, $2,000 Seven Card Stud. The 213-player field contained a mix of big names, veteran players and stud specialists, including Artie Cobb, Barbara Enright, Mel Judah, Chip Reese, Greg Raymer, Marcel Luske, Paul Darden, David Sklansky, Thor Hansen, Tom Franklin, Cyndy Violette, Daniel Negreanu, Tony G. and Howard Lederer. A first-place prize of $118,426 awaits the winner.

As is normal for any limit-format event, 192 players still remained after the dinner break, and only during late-night play did the elimination pace pick up. David Chiu, Lederer, and Alan Kessler all made remarkable comebacks despite being on the brink of elimination at several points during the day, but less fortunate were Barbara Lewis, Cobb, Hansen, Raymer, Sklansky, Jim McManus, Enright, Tony G., Humberto Brenes, and Franklin.

A big Day One storyline was Daniel Negreanu, who arrived late but began collecting chips right away. Negreanu finished the day in second place with 24,075 in chips, just behind leader Gary Priegen's 25,600. The overnight Top Ten:

PLAYER — CHIPS

Gary Priegen 25,600
Daniel Negreanu 24,075
Tam Nguyen 23,575
Levon Torosyan 22,600
