The Sunday Briefing: Bolivar "Ramux" Palacios Earns a Sunday Victory

Bolivar Palacios

We are now less than a week away from the biggest event that PokerStars' 10th Anniversary has to offer. On Sunday, Dec. 18, the Sunday Million's $1,000,000 guarantee will be upped to a $10,000,000 guarantee. In addition, a 10th Anniversary $10,000 High Roller event will also be on the docket. Before next weekend, though, there was still plenty of excitement to be had this weekend. There were four six-figure winners who emerged from the online tournament scene and notables Bolivar "Ramux" Palacios, Janos "szusza84" Toth, and Balázs "birs320" Botond notched first-place finishes.

PokerStars Sunday Million ($1M Guaranteed)

Buy-inEntrantsPrize Pool
$200+$156,983$1,396,600

The Sunday Million, up 84 players from last week, was home to a three-handed deal that guaranteed each of the final three at least $148,000. With the blinds and antes at the 300K/600K/60K level, "sara022" (21.6 million) min-raised on the button and was called by "JJ@mess" (25.3 million) in the big blind. An 872 flop came down and "JJ@mess" check-called a bet of about 2 million. When the 10 hit the turn, a series of bets and raises led "sara022" to be all-in with Q10, needing to improve against the 96 of "JJ@mess." The river did not deliver a flush for "sara022," who exited in third place.

There was little surprise as to which players reached heads-up play. Starting the final table, "JJ@mess" and "janfryed" combined for just less than half the total amount of chips in play. "JJ@mess" held just more than a 2:1 chip lead on "janfryed" when the heads-up match began. It would take 39 hands, but "JJ@mess" sealed the deal and locked up the win. On the final hand, "janfryed" shoved for about 14 big blinds with K9 and was called by "JJ@mess" who tabled 44. A 765 flop kept things interesting. The 3 turn made a straight for "JJ@mess," but "janfryed" picked up a flush draw. However, the J river ended the tournament with a "JJ@mess" victory.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up ($500K Guaranteed)

Buy-inEntrantsPrize Pool
$200+$153,680$736,000

Up 95 players from last week, the Sunday Warm-Up saw a four-handed deal go down to secure no less than $68,000 for each of the final four survivors. "Niorm" fell in fourth place after getting his chips in for about 28 big blinds with QQ against the AQ of "Zimmy86". An ace on the flop would be all she wrote for "Niorm." Falling in third place "dsnka" who also lost with the best of it for a key pot. Lubos "lubos1980cz" Dvorak, the short stack at the time, made a stand with a four-bet shove for roughly 22 big blinds holding 76. The bluff was called by "dsnka" with A10, but the board ran out Q84K6 to give Dvorak a pair on the river. A crippled "dsnka" was unable to recover.

"Zimmy86" began heads-up play with about a 1.7:1 chip lead. The match would carry on for a while, with Dvorak seizing the lead at one point. However, it would be "Zimmy86" who would finish on top. All-in after a 1073 flop, "Zimmy86" was well ahead with Q10 against the AQ held by Dvorek. No help would arrive for Dvorak, who busted shortly thereafter to give "Zimmy86" the crown.
