World Poker Tour Parx Open Poker Classic Day 2: Brent Roberts Leads; 47 Remain 0001

Season XI of the World Poker Tour Parx Open Poker Classic continued on Sunday with Day 2 action at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The remaining 196 players from a field of 500 returned for seven levels of play, and by the end, only 47 remained. Leading the way is Brent Roberts, who bagged up 749,500.

In the first level alone, a number of pros hit the rail including WPT Season IX Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger, David “ODB” Baker, Todd Terry, Jason Koon, Faraz Jaka, AP Phahurat and Amanda Musumeci.

In Musumeci’s last hand, the big blind checked a flop of A98 and opened the door for Musumeci to bet. A check-raise ensued, Musumeci moved all-in, and the big blind made the call with A10. Musumeci tabled 76 and was in need of some help. The 6 turn gave her a pair, but the 4 river left her wanting and out of the tournament.

From there, the eliminations kept mounting, including Parx Poker Ambassador Matt Glantz; past Borgata Poker Open champ Dwyte Pilgrim; Bernard Lee, Nick Binger, Xuan Liu, Shaun Deeb, and Cornel Cimpan, a multiple WPT winner and the Day 1a chip leader.

In Cimpan’s last hand, he was all-in preflop and two players created a side pot. On a 1095 flop, Robert Pyne pushed out the other active player and tabled A4 for the nut-flush draw, which was actually out in front of Cimpan’s KQ. The 9 turn gave Pyne the said flush, and after the 8 was put out on the river, Cimpan hit the rail, leaving just three former WPT champs in the field — Victor Ramdin, Jeff Forrest and Steve Brecher.

When action was just two away from the money in Level 17, Christian Harder moved all in for 58,500 holding AK and was called by a player holding AJ. Harder was in great shape to double, but the J85 flop was disaster as it delivered his opponent an improbable jack. Neither the 7 turn nor Q river helped Harder, and he left empty handed in 56th place.

With that said, a few players did manage to sneak into the money and notch a $6,402 min-cash — Randy Burnette (54th), Jeffrey Spence (53rd), Brian Taylor (52nd), John Courtney (51st), Dennis Frederick (50th), Joseph Liberta (49th) and Nicholas Grippo (48th).

Some players who will be returning on Day 3 are Jon Turner (108,000), Allen Kessler (137,000), Peter Ippolito (184,000), Paul Volpe (250,000), Kevin Calenzo (279,000), Allen Bari (436,500) and David Paredes (440,500). Here’s a look at the top ten chip counts at the end of Day 2:
