Shawn "buck21" Buchanan Wins His Fourth and Fifth PokerStars SCOOP Titles

The 2016 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is more than halfway through. The 55 events are broken out into low, medium, and high buy-ins, creating a total of 165 different tournaments with a combined $40 million in guaranteed prize pools.

You can read our recap here on the first 11 events, highlighted by the United Kingdom's Luke "lb6121" Schwartz winning his fifth SCOOP title, just one behind the record held by American poker refugee Calvin "cal42688" Anderson, but for this article we'll be focusing on another now five-time SCOOP champion.

Shawn "buck21" Buchanan became the latest to win his fifth SCOOP title, putting him in a tie with Schwartz and Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb for the second most, but getting his fifth is only heightened by the fact that right before it he won his fourth. First, Buchanan won the SCOOP-14-H: $2,100 NL Omaha Hi/Lo [6-Max, Turbo, Zoom], $300K Guaranteed for $82,160. He then claimed victory later in the series in the SCOOP-24-M: $2,100 NL Hold'em [8-Max, High-Roller], $300K Guaranteed for $270,125.

Chile's Nick "chilenocl" Yunis won his second SCOOP event and his biggest cash on PokerStars after outlasting a field of 216 players to win the SCOOP-12-H: $2,100 NL Hold'em [6-Max, Shootout], $200K Guaranteed for $95,040. His first win came last year in the SCOOP-38-H: $2,100 NL Hold'em [1R1A], $500K Gtd, when he won $40,950.

In the next event, Thiago "tgrigoletti" Grigoletti became the eighth Brazilian to win a SCOOP title this year when he won the SCOOP-13-H: $700 NL Hold'em [Progressive Super-Knockout], $100K Guaranteed for $68,287.36, plus $54,724.33 in bounties.

Germany's "SsicK_OnE" joined the ranks of winning multiple SCOOP titles after winning the SCOOP-18-H: $700 NL Hold'em, $250K Guaranteed for $143,880. Last year he won his first SCOOP title when he banked $22,209 after winning the SCOOP-12-M: $82 NL Holdem [Ante Up] - $75K Gtd.

Meanwhile, Dario "Secret_M0d3" Sammartino became the biggest winner thus far in this year's SCOOP after shipping the SCOOP-24-H: $21,000 NL Hold'em [8-Max, High-Roller], $500K Guaranteed for a very impressive $718,218.

Also enjoying big paydays were Joaquin "elmelogno4" Melogno and Lithuanian-born Matas "bebaimis777" Cimbolas, who, as a result of a heads-up deal in the SCOOP-29-H: $2,100 NL Hold'em, $1M Guaranteed, banked $323,714 and $292,566, respectfully.
