Greg Geller Tops Leader Board on Day 1b Colorado Poker Championship

Greg Geller

Greg Geller has been a mainstay atop the chip counts on Day 1s as of late at the Golden Gates Casino and Poker Parlour in Black Hawk, Colorado, and he found himself in familiar territory finishing Day 1b of the August 2019 Colorado Poker Championship $1,100 Main Event as the chip leader with a total of 365,500.

Day 1b saw 90 entries added to the tally, with 18 players putting chips into bags at the end of the night. Geller was eliminated from the tournament on his first bullet after spending about four hours never getting much above starting stack. He got right back in on the action and was able to chip up slightly with his second bullet. However, he still never got much going until just before the final break of the night, when he finally eclipsed the 100,000-mark in chips.

The largest hand of Geller’s night came in the final level of play when he knocked out Mike Wheeler, who boasted a large stack throughout most of the day. Geller raised ace-jack with the ace of clubs and saw a jack-high flop with three clubs. He bet the flop and then shoved the turn, only to get instantly called by Wheeler’s jack-nine with no club. Geller unnecessarily improved to the nut flush on the river and suddenly found himself near the top of the leader board.

Second in chips for the day was WSOP bracelet winner Adrian Buckley, who finished the day with 293,000 in chips. Buckley also won a massive pot near the end of the day when his flopped set of fives held versus a flopped open-ended straight draw when stacks got in versus Andrew Dea. Dea also had one of the largest stacks of the day prior to that point, though he did still advance, finishing the day with 128,000 in chips.

Rounding out the top five in chips are Ben Keeline (210,500), Nate Zoller (192,000), and Matt Voorhees (187,000).

Other notable players to advance include Thomas Fuller (161,500), David Levi (87,500), and recent HPT Golden Gates champion Austin Peck (47,500).

The field was full of notable players and many of them found themselves eliminated prior to the end of play. Chris Tryba, Aaron Frei, Ryan Dodson, Danny Gonzales, and Nick Pupillo were among those to fall short of bagging and all who have yet to do so will have one last chance on Saturday’s Day 1c.

Cards will be in the air for Day 1c at noon local time. Come back to PokerNews to find out who advances on their last chance.
