Biography

Raymond Wu is another poker pro that owes his start in the game to the exploits of a certain Chris Moneymaker. Raymond, originally from Chinese Taipei, was studying psychology at the University of California when he caught an episode of the 2003 World Series of Poker* on TV. The skill, patience, courage and psychology on display fascinated Raymond, and he immediately went online to find out more and start to play. The fact he’s now a team mate of Moneymaker’s at PokerStars shows just how far he’s come.

He’s a regular player at PokerStars Macau, one of the hottest spots for live poker in the region. He has the distinction of winning the Red Dragon Main Event at the Macau Poker Cup - a feat he achieved in 2010 when he took down the title and $85,520 in prize money. He’s also taken his game abroad and recorded his biggest live cash when he final tabled EPT London in 2009, eventually finishing in 7th place - good for $138,500. One of Raymond’s proudest moments in poker came when he captained his country, Chinese Taipei, at the live final of the World Cup of Poker VI at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in The Bahamas. His team were underdogs for much of the competition, but their tenacity, not to mention Raymond’s expert leadership, saw them triumph against the odds and claim the title and $100,000 in prize money.

As well as playing all the top events, Raymond runs a poker training site called Fiveofakind, which offers video tutorials and aims to develop players in Taipei. Away from poker he likes to read about investing and self-improvement, and he’s also into martial arts, training in muay thai and jiu jitsu. He fully appreciates the opportunity to represent Team PokerStars Pro and everything that comes with it, and he’s proud to be able to travel the world and meet new people while playing the game he loves.
