Anunu Hits the Rail

The action has really started to heat up as we pass the halfway mark of Day 1b of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event. Players have been hitting the rail in quick succession during the last level or so, including that of the reigning ANZ Player of the Year Mishel Anunu. If Anunu wants to make it back-to-back POY awards, then he will really have to put in a better effort at the next event on the tour, which is ANZPT Perth in February, 2012.

Guerin Eliminated

Action folded around to Didier Guerin in the hijack, who committed his remaining 7,175 in chips, into the middle. He was snap-called by the player in the cut off, and the hands where tabled.

Guerin: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, and although he flopped top-pair, Guerin was unable to dodge the king on the turn to see him eliminated from the tournament.

Tao Doubles Opponent

With the flop showing {7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, the player in the big blind checked his option. Wen Tao was under-the-gun, and made it 1,500. With the action back on his opponent, he opted to move all in for his last 5,650 in chips. Tao called, and the hands were shown.

Tao: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

The heart wouldn’t come for Tao, giving his opponent a much needed double-up. Even with that hand, Tao still monsters over his table-mates, with 55,000 in chips.

Wittkopf Leads the Group

After building up his stack earlier in the level, Marc Wittkopf has won another big pot to move to the biggest stack in the room.

It started with the flop showing {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. The player in the small blind put out a bet, before Wittkopf made it 7,000 to go. His opponent deliberated only for a second before announcing all in, and committed his final 24,800 chips into the middle. Wittkopf casually counted out the bet, and placed it forward, calling the bet.

Wittkopf: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

Wittkopf had flopped two pair, and needed to dodge a combination of running cards. The {5-Clubs} provided a short scare, however, the {9-Diamonds} on the river secured him the pot, and the title of new chip leader.

Lee Adds to Monster Stack

We arrived at the table to see Jason Lee calling an 11,000 all in by his opponent. He held the {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and was happy to see he was up against the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. He was not impressed, however, when the flop dropped {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} to give his opponent the lead. That all quickly changed when the turn produced the {K-Hearts} to give him back the advantage. The river came the {5-Clubs} to see Lee eliminate a player and move up to 85,000 in chips.
