Welcome back to SKYCITY Auckland Casino for the final Day 1 flight of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Auckland Main Event.

Earlier this morning, we saw Australian Charles Caris make a late run to steal the chip lead for Day 1b, after Angie Fitzgerald showed dominance throughout the opening day, to finish as chip leader for Day 1a.

Today we’re hoping to have 80 players register to reach the 200-runner mark for the tournament. We’ll be expecting some big names including Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang, 2010 APPT Auckland Main Event champion Danny “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii, 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event champion David Gorr and WSOP Bracelet winner and 2009 APPT Auckland Main Event champion Simon Watt to all be in attendance.

Be sure to join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team at 12:30pm NZPT for the final Day 1 flight as we edge closer to determining who’ll be crowned the first ever ANZPT Auckland Main Event Champion!

Shuffle Up and Deal

Tournament Director Danny McDonagh has welcomed the last flight of Day 1 players, as well as thanking all the staff for making this event possible. He then passed it on to defending Auckland champion Danny "Brotha D" Leaoasavaii, who wished all the players luck, before announcing shuffle up and deal, to officially get us underway.

Gorr Wins Early

David Gorr limped into the pot, as did the player to his immediate left, before their opponent in small blind raised to 350. Both of them called to see the flop come {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The player in the small blind then checked his option, before Gorr swiftly threw in 550 in chips. This brought two quick folds to see the 2011 Aussie Millions champion win himself a pot early on in proceedings.

Brotha D Lays Down on Flop

We caught the action on a board reading {Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} with Danny “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii checking his option from late position. His opponent in the hijack bet out for 1,425, before Leaoasavaii opted to re-raise to 2,850. His opponent didn’t stop there, re-raising again to 6,000. A minute passed before Leaoasavaii finally folded.

Even after all that betting on the flop, Leaoasavaii still sits on 22,000 in chips.

Ballard Gives Some Up

With the board reading {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}, Stewart Ballard opened with a bet of 550. His opponent called, and both saw the turn fall the {3-Spades}. This time Ballard checked, before instantly being met with a bet of 550. He shook his head in confusion, and made the call. The river came the {9-Diamonds} and both players decided to check.

Ballard tabled {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}, but it was no good against his opponents {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Walker Happy to Check it Down

Action started with a player opening to 350. Keith walker called from the button, and both saw the flop come out {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. The original player continued with a bet of 650, before Walker bumped it up to 1,800, which was called. They both then checked down to the river as the {5-Hearts} and {9-Diamonds} completed the board.

Walker tabled {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} which was good enough to take down the pot, and move up to 23,000 in chips.
