Ballard In Early

The action was opened by Oliver Speidel in middle position. Jason O'Brien made the call a couple of positions to his left and it was Stewart Ballard in the blinds. Ballard opted to shove all in and it was sent back around to Speidel. It took a while for Speidel to decide what to do, eventually shoving his big stack in. O'Brien got out of the way and the two players turned their hands over.

Speidel: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Ballard: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

By the time the board ran out {3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Ballard was still in front, but Speidel had some more outs with the broadway draw. The {q-Diamonds} on the river changed nothing and Ballard took down the double-up.

Martin Rowe Eliminated in 9th Place (A$17,518)

Martin Rowe - 9th Place
Martin Rowe - 9th Place

The first elimination of the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event Final Table has just occurred, with Martin Rowe unable to recapture the success he had at the 2008 APPT Sydney Main Event.

It all started when Rowe opened it up to 55,000 from middle position. It was then on Anthony Aston in the small blind and he made it 93,000 more to go. Rowe then shoved his stack in and it was an extra 236,000 to Aston. He made the call and the two players turned their hands over.

Rowe: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Aston: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

By the time the board ran out {10-Hearts}{j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, Rowe was looking good to take it down. Then someone on the rail said, "no nine!" and then ... The river fell with a {9-Hearts}.

For his great effort, Rowe goes home in 9th place and A$17,518.

Bradley Lancken Eliminated in 8th Place (A$23,511)

Bradley Lancken - 8th Place
Bradley Lancken - 8th Place

When Bradley Lancken got his stack all in preflop holding {k-}{k-} against Oliver Speidel's {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}, he was looking very good to survive and thrive here at the final table. If only this game were that simple.

Flop: {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

The {6-Spades} on the turn and the {10-Spades} on the river did not change the devastating flop as Lancken heads out the door in 8th place for a bittersweet A$23,511.

O'Brien On The Move

Gordon Huntly opened it up to 55,000 from early position and Oliver Speidel made the call in middle position. Jason O'Brien was then on the button when he popped it to 150,000. Huntly made the call and Speidel got out of the way.

Flop: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

On the flop, Huntly checked to O'Brien who bet 125,000. This was enough to take it down as Huntly's cards went into the muck.

Aston Takes Some From Speidel

Anthony Aston is creeping up the counts on the final table yet again, this time picking up some of Oliver Speidel's chips. We caught the action on the turn with a board showing {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Aston was first to act and he opted to check-call a bet of 180,000 from Speidel.

On the {5-Hearts} river, both players opted to check and Aston was handed the pot when his {k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} sent Speidel's cards into the muck.

Here Comes Ballard

Stewart Ballard doubles with a fist pump
Stewart Ballard doubles with a fist pump

The action was opened by Oliver Speidel in the cutoff. Liam O'Rourke was on the button when he three-bet to 132,000. It was then on Stewart Ballard in the big blind and he shoved all in for 513,000. Speidel got out of the way and O'Rourke decided to make the call.

Ballard: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
O'Rourke: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

When the flop was spread {5-Spades}{10-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, there was a bit of excitement from the rail. The turn and river didn't change a thing and it was Ballard's bigger set that took down the pot.
