Gao Chasing the Player of the Year

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Jie Gao is currently 2nd on the ANZ Player of the Year leader board and will be looking for a strong showing here in Perth to try and surpass the current leader Michael Guzzardi.

Gao started Day 2 with a tiny chip stack, but has since ran it up to just under 20,000. Gao's latest victory saw him holding {a-Spades}{k-Spades} to eliminate a short stacked player who held {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The board ran out {6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Gao added the much needed chips to his stack.

No Diamond Justice for Jeffreys

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

"Diamond justice one time!" screamed Andrew Jeffreys as he found himself all-in holding {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} against the {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} of Emanuel Seal.

There was a {q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop on the felt at this stage and Jeffreys turned to the dealer and said, "You can either be a hero or a villain, you're choice."

From Jeffreys point of view, the dealer chose the path of the villian as a {4-Clubs} turn and a {a-Clubs} river were not the justice Jeffreys was looking for. Back to the drawing board.

Plenty Down in First Level

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Currently 89 players remain heading into the second level of the day. That means we lost 19 players in the first hour of play here on Day 2. The current average stack is 46,349.

One Team Pro Down, One Remains

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We have just received word that Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang has been eliminated from the tournament. Huang let us know that he jammed for 11,100 from the button holding {q-}{8-}. The big blind woke up with {a-}{j-} and made the call and unfortunately for Huang, the {10-}{10-}{j-}{8-}{4-} board was of no help as Huang was sent packing.

With that, Angel Guillen is the last remaining player to fly the PokerStars flag.

Bain on the Boom

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Tristan Bain started Day 2 with plenty of chips and has since managed to see his stack hit six figures. A recent hand involving Bain started when a player opened the button to 1,900. Bain called out of the big blind and the dealer flipped over a {3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs} flop.

Bain check-called a bet of 4,300 and a {7-Hearts} hit the turn. Bain once again check-called, this time a bet of 7,700. When the {a-Spades} completed the board on the river, Bain opted to again check and his opponent would bet 13,000. Bain ended up calling, at which point his opponent tapped the table as he turned over {k-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a whole lot of nothing.

Bain's {a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for two-pair was strong to scoop up the pot.
