Poker Immortal Proves His Mortality

No sooner had we written about Brad Daugherty than he was knocked out of the tournament. He got his chips in with two pair, holding {A-Diamonds}

on a board of {J-Diamonds}

, but his opponent had turned a better two pair with {J-Clubs}

. The case jack hit the river, giving each player a full house. Daugherty's jacks full of sixes was not enough to avoid elimination.

Michael Comes Out Of His Shell

Our run-away chip leader at the moment is American Michael Shell who won his seat into today's event as a PokerStars online qualifier. He is currently sitting with over 65,000 as holds a comfortable lead over the field.

Daniel Nordstrom, David Saab and Victor Torres are next in line with chips worth only around half of Shell's stack.

Nordstrom Flushes Opponent

The board read {K-Clubs}

when Swedish player Daniel Nordstrom put his opponent to a decision for all of his chips. His opponent deliberated and feared the flush, but with over 20,000 in the middle and only about 5,000 behind he made the call and tabled {K-Spades}

for flopped two pair. However Nordstrom flipped over {A-Clubs}

for the nut flush to scoop the pot and send his opponent to the rail.

Nordstrom is now up to 32,000 chips.

1991 WSOP Main Event Champion Brad Daugherty

You would think that, poker being what it is, it'd be hard for a world champion to remain anonymous in a room full of poker players. In fact, if you wandered by Table 10 you probably wouldn't glance twice at the player in Seat 6. He has glasses and a mustache and is a bit older than the average player these days, but other than that he probably wouldn't register on your radar screen. And yet, he's a world champion. Brad Daugherty is his name, and in 1991 he finished first of 215 players in the $10,000 Main Event of the World Series of Poker, collecting a cool $1,000,000 for his efforts.

Daugherty is slightly above the starting stack. He recently won a small raised pot against Sunshine Samson and another player by betting a {2-Clubs}

flop and getting no callers.

Running Quads, Cracks Full House!

When the roar went up over on table seven we hastily made our way over to see what the commotion was about. We found ourselves looking at a pot between Victor Torres and Clarence Poh with all the chips in the middle and the board spread {9-Spades}

.

Torres was the first to show his cards, tabling {5-Hearts}

for running quads and the stone-cold nuts! Poh threw his head back as he revealed {9-Clubs}

for a flopped full house that had somehow come unstuck in the worst way possible -- perfect, perfect!

Poh quickly grabbed his jacket and headed to the exit as Torres stacked up over 30,000 in chips!

Tough Break for Cha

Jimmy Cha may be regretting the line he took in a recent hand against Hyoungjiin Nam and another opponent. With the button, Cha raised to 1,500 after Nam and the third player limped in. They both called, then checked the {8-Clubs}

flop to him. Cha bet 2,000; only Nam called. Both players checked through the {10-Hearts}

turn. Khow checked a third time when the board paired with a river card of {6-Spades}

. Cha counted out 3,500 and pushed it into the middle; Nam snap-called. Cha turned top pair with {A-Spades}

, but it was no good against Nams {J-Clubs}

.

Cha was left with 5,200 chips. Khow now has a touch more than 30,000.

For the second time today, Table 17 reached six-handed play due to rapid eliminations of players at the table. It should come as no surprise that the biggest stack we have found so far, that of Garry Cantong, is at Table 17.

When a few new players joined the table after being broken from other tables, Larry Pashak glanced up at them. "Welcome to the Table of Doom," he deadpanned.
