The players are back and the cards are once again in the air. 126 players remain.

We should have the official tournament numbers and prize pool for you shortly.

Huntly Steaming

Huntly During Happier Times
Huntly During Happier Times
With the board reading {9-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs} Japanese player Norihito Suzuki committed his last chips into the middle against Australian Dennis Huntly.

Huntly gave the decision a little thought before making the call. He tabled {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} for top two pair and was happy to see Suzuki reveal {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

"He still has lots of outs!" commented one player at the table, and he was right, as the {7-Hearts} peeled off on the river to give Suzuki a flush and the pot.

"How much is it?" Huntly asked the dealer, with another player chirping "It's 1,675".

"I wasn't asking you!" snapped a disgruntled Huntly, "You're not the umpire here!" The dealer confirmed it was indeed 1,675 and Huntly paid off his opponent to slip back to under 10,000 chips. Immediately after the hand the table broke and players dispersed to find new homes, which was probably good timing for a steaming Huntly.

Lee Rolling

Sarah Lee has had her ups and down today, but right now she's on an upswing. With the board showing {Q-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {A-Spades}, she managed to get all in holding {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} against an opponent who showed pocket sixes. When the turn fell {A-Clubs}, Lee made an unbeatable full house. She now has about 16,000 chips and is happily chatting with Celina Lin, seated to her immediate left. Lin has about 15,000 chips.

Kaselias Wins Big Pot, Eventually

Nali Kaselias
Nali Kaselias
After a player in the cutoff opened with a raise to 550, Nali Kaselias bumped it up an additional 2,100 from the big blind. His opponent made the call and they saw a flop of {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

Kaselias led out for 5,000 and his opponent thought for a long time before cutting out ten purple 500-denomination chips and making the call.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and this time Kaselias deliberated, and after a few minutes of thought he decided to commit his last 7,500 chips into the pot. This sent his opponent into the tank for a long time. So much so, that he was worried that someone had called the clock on him. No one had, but after another few minutes of thought, Kaselias had seen enough and called time. In a hand that extended close to ten minutes, his opponent eventually gave it up and the PokerNews Cup Champion collected a healthy pot to climb to 18,000.

Waki Crippled

Yaushiro Waki, left
Yaushiro Waki, left
Disaster has struck Yasuhiro Waki at Table 11. He got all in on a flop of {3-?} {4-?} {3-?} holding unimproved ace-queen against James Obst's unimproved king-queen. Obst promptly spiked a king on the turn; Waki couldn't complete the re-suckout on the river. That hand made Obst one of the chip leaders of the tournament with 32,000 and crippled Waki to just 1,800.

Liu, Lau. Lau, Liu.

JJ Liu has been eliminated
JJ Liu has been eliminated
It's game over for J.J. Liu. In a five-way limped pot and a flop of {9-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds}, Liu opened the flop action with a bet of 800. She was immediately raised by Phil Lau to 2,500, a raise that folded all other players in the hand. Liu called, then moved in on the {10-Hearts} turn for the rest of her stack, 4,375 in total. Lau quickly called and table an open-ended straight flush draw, {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts}. Liu showed {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} for top pair and a gutshot draw, taking away one of Lau's heart outs and killing a few of his straight outs. That didn't matter; the river came {6-Spades} to make a straight for Lau and bounce Liu from the tournament.

Lee Doesn't Straighten Out

Sarah Lee has been eliminated from the tournament. She moved all in on the turn holding an open-ended straight draw and was called by Dimitrios Pappis, who tabled top pair. Top pair was good enough to win the pot when the board bricked out. Lee reported to the rail, and Pappis reported to the top of the chip counts with about 36,000.

Waki Makes Nice Comeback

After his earlier bad beat, Yasuhiro Waki has been very busy with his short stack with some aggressive all in plays. So it was understandable that his all in re-steal from the big blind was called by the player on the button with pocket sixes. Waki held {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and the race was on.

The board landed in Waki's favour as it ran out {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{8-Spades} giving him two pair and a nice double up to about 12,000 chips.
