Welcome Back for Day 1b

Play is just around the corner for flight Day 1b of the PokerStars.net APPT Syndey Grand Final. At 12:30 p.m. local time, the cards will be in the air as the second group of runners takes to the felt.

Yesterday saw 81 entrants begin the day with 51 moving on to Day 2. Those numbers were down a little bit from last year, but things are expected to pick up today as many players like to wait until the second and third starting days to begin play.

Tony "Bond18" Dunst topped the field last night, bagging up 104,300 chips. Will someone be able to top him today? Only time will tell.

Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all the live coverage coming to you shortly!

The Prizepool is Swelling

Day 1b of the APPT Grand Final has already eclipsed the number of registered players from Day 1a, with the number currently at 109. It's been confirmed that Day 1c already has over 140 registered players and APPT President Jeffrey Haas is hoping for a first prize of AUD $1 million.

Among today's notables are David Steicke, Michael Guzzardi, former WSOP bracelet winner Brian Wilson, Jay Kinkade, Julius Colman, Brenon Rubie, and last years champion Martin Rowe.

Also in today's field is the winner of the Australian television show "The Poker Star," Amanda De Cesare.

An Early Exit

Jean-Claude Baillon and Asier Aberro got all in on the turn of a board reading {J-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {3-Hearts}. Aberro held {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} and Baillon held {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds}.

The river was the {4-Hearts} and Aberro's set of jacks proved good. He's now up to 56,000 and the early chip leader. Baillon was the first elimination of the day.

Steicke Down a Little

After a raise to 325, four players went to the flop and saw the {K-Clubs} {9-Spades} {2-Diamonds} hit the felt. The preflop raiser fired 850 and only David Steicke called, after having checked.

The turn brought the {A-Spades} and Steicke checked. His opponent fired 1,700 and Steicke folded, showing the {K-Diamonds}. He's down to 24,000.

Asier Aberro Running Hot

Brian Wilson
Brian Wilson
From early position Asier Aberro raised it up to 500 and Brian Wilson called from the button. The dealer unveiled a flop of {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and Aberro bet 1,000 and the former bracelet winner called.

The turn card brought the {A-Spades} and Aberro decided to slow down checking to Wilson, who checked behind.

The {10-Diamonds} on the river was the action card, with Aberro tossing out two red chips for 2,000. Wilson min-raised to 4,000 and Aberro popped it up to 8,000 straight. This bet sent Wilson into a bit of a rant. He recounted the action and said "how can i fold this hand?" Wilson finally made the call flipping over {J-Diamonds} {10-Spades}, and said "show me your ace-jack." Aberro did just that flipping over {A-?} {J-?} for the bigger full house, awarding him the 19,000 pot.

Asier Aberro now sits on about 66,000, while Brian Wilson slips to about 20,000.

De Cesare Takes One from Guzzardi

Amanda De Cesare
Amanda De Cesare
Amanda De Cesare raised to 300 from under the gun and Michael "TheBigSiCkO" Guzzardi called from the hijack seat. The flop came down {9-Spades} {8-Clubs} {5-Spades} and De Cesare checked. Guzzardi bet 550 and was called.

The turn brought the {8-Spades} and De Cesare checked again. Guzzardi fired another bullet, one worth 1,025. Again, he was called.

The river was the {4-Clubs} and De Cesare led for 3,000. Guzzardi tanked, smiled and mucked his hand. He's down to 26,500. De Cesare is up to 34,000.

If you're unfamiliar with De Cesare, she was the recent winner of Australian's The Poker Star. She won the AUD $500 Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series 3 Main Event for AUD $77,500 in November of 2009 and also placed second in an Aussie Millions event in 2009.
