Short Stacks Battle over Buttons and Blinds

Level 17 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

The three-handed action at the start of level 17 hasn't been that exciting. Each player seems to be testing out how strongly to attack the big blinds or how light to defend.

Bryn Kenney is on the button when John Juanda is the big blind and the last two preflop battles have gone to Kenney.

The first time Kenney opened for 350,000 and Juanda called. The flop came {5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {q-Diamonds} and Juanda checked to Kenney.

Kenney bet 540,000 and Juanda called. The river paired the board with the {q-Hearts} and Juanda checked again. The paired board didn't seem to change anything for Kenney, as he bet 1.165-million. Juanda folded.

The next time Kenney was on the button, he raised with his standard opening raise of 350,000 and Juanda decided not to defend his big blind, folding and giving Kenney the uncontested pot.

Juanda Under 20 Bigs

Level 17 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

John Juanda lost two pots in quick succession and is in the danger zone now.

He completed from the small blind and Bryn Kenney checked his option. The flop fanned {q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Juanda led for 200,000. Kenney called to the {q-Clubs} turn where both players checked. The board completed with the {k-Spades} and Kenney called a 540,000 bet. Juanda could only muster {9-}{6-}, losing out to Kenney's {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

Andy Andrejevic completed from the small blind and called after Juanda raised to 480,000. The flop came {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Andrejevic check-called 475,000. The {7-Hearts} turn was checked to the {2-Spades} river where Andrejevic set Juanda all in for his last 2.8 million. Fold.

Juanda got some back after this by moving all in and taking the blinds and antes.

Kenney Whittling Down Juanda

Level 17 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

It was Bryn Kenney's button again, and as usual he was raising, making it 350,000 to go. John Juanda has been struggling to defend his big blind from Kenny, but he called, deciding to give it another go.

The flop came all tens {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Juanda checked. Kenney bet 235,000 and Juanda called. Both players checked the {3-Spades} on the turn and Juanda checked again when the {6-Clubs} came on the river. Kenney bet 670,000 and Juanda took only about 15 seconds to fold.

A happy JJ
A happy JJ

John Juanda has risen to second in the counts after doubling through Andrejevic and taking a pot of Bryn Kenney.

Andrejevic raised to 450,000 and called after Juanda shoved for 2,390,000. Juanda opened {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} which was ahead of Andrejevic's {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and stayed there after a roller-coaster board ran {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

The next hand he raised to 425,000 but folded when Kenney shoved on him.

Then he called a 450,000 button raise from Kenney while in the big blind. Both players checked the {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop before Juanda led for 360,000 and 755,000 on the {k-Spades}{2-Clubs} turn and river. Kenney folded on the river.

Three But Not Four

Level 18 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante
Andy Andrejevic
Andy Andrejevic

Andy Andrejevic is continuing to rebuild his stack after doubling John Juanda up. He just won three hands in a row.

Hand #1: Bryn Kenney raised to 450,000 from the button and Andrejevic reraised to 1.125-million. Kenney folded.

Hand #2: This time Andrejevic was on the button and he raised to 450,000. Juanda and Kenney both folded their blinds.

Hand #3: It was Juanda's turn to raise the button and he did so, making it 400,000. Andrejevic defended his big blind and the two players awaited the flop. Andrejevic checked after the dealer put down the {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop. Juanda bet 460,000. Andrejevic three-bet to 1.175-million and Juanda folded.

Juanda managed to get some back on the next hand. Andrejevic limped the button and Juanda made it 650,000, Andrejevic called. The flop came {5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and both players checked. Juanda took it down on the turn when the {7-Spades} hit and he bet 820,000 after an Andrejevic check.

Juanda and Andrejevic Continue to Tangle

Level 18 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante

The last couple of orbits were dominated by John Juanda and Andy Andrejevic, with the former getting the best of it.

Andrejevic raised to 450,000 and Juanda called from the small blind. He check-called another 550,000 on a {8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop before the {10-Spades}{4-Hearts} turn and river were checked down. Juanda opened {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Andrejevic folded.

Two hands later, Andrejevic raised to 550,000 from the small blind and Junada called to a {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop that was checked. Andrejevic led for 675,000 on the {8-Clubs} turn and Junada called to the {5-Spades} river where the action was checked to him. Bryn Kenney Eliminated in 3rd Place (HKD$3,635,000)

Level 18 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante
Bryn Kenney - 3rd Place
Bryn Kenney - 3rd Place

Bryn Kenney doubled up on what he thought was the last hand before the ten-minute break. The dealer had already started shuffle and the tournament director called Kenney back to his seat to play one more hand.

That last hand insured that Kenney would have a break longer than ten-minute break. He would be eliminated on the hand by the far-and-away chip leader, Andy Andrejevic. The same player who doubled him up the hand before.

Kenney doubled up when he shoved all in from the button and Andrejevic called from the small blind. John Juanda folded and Kenney turned over {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Andrejevic held {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and couldn't catch up after an ace hit the flop and the run out finished {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

The next hand, Andrejevic raised from the button and Kenney was all in again. Andrejevic snap called again, but this time he was ahead and would stay ahead. Andrejevic had {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and Kenney had {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. The board ran out {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Kenney was eliminated in third place.

Kenney's elimination leaves EPT12 Barcelona Champion John Juanda heads up with Andy Andrejevic, who won his seat in the satellite held on Day 1 of the Super High-Roller.
