Lim's Hunt for POY Continues

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

David Lim just needs to make the money and he will surpass Edison Nguyen on the ANZ Player of the Year leader board.

This is the last stop of the year too, so that would make him the winner.

Well, his chances are looking good three off the money, especially considering he just doubled up against Dean Blatt - an interesting opponent in this situation as Blatt can also win the prize if he finishes in the top three.

What's even more interesting about this situation is that Lim was all in with {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} against Blatt's {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and caught running cards on a {10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Spades} board to make a wheel to win the pot. Lim was all in for 19,000 and so he still only has 15 big blinds, but he is alive and chasing the prize.

Brewster's Unique Story

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

There was just a very unique situation here on Day 2 of APPT Auckland.

It started around 15 minutes ago when there was a discrepancy in the antes during a hand. There was 500 (one ante) less in the pot than there should have been. Minh Nguyen put in the ante (even though it seemed like he had already done so) and the hand played on. However, at this point, Angela Brewster told the floor that she had paid 1,000 ante and was owed 500 change.

Now everyone was confused and so the floor decided to go the cameras.

Meanwhile, the tournament played on until Brewster was all in for 36,000 when she moved all in holding {7-Spades}{6-Spades} on the turn of a {4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} board. Nguyen called her off with {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and with a {7-Clubs} on the river, Brewster was eliminated.

Well, she would have been, but then at the exact moment that the river was dealt, the floor arrived and explained that they had figured out the ante problem from earlier – one player, Robert Spano, was given 1,000 change, while Brewster was given no change.
Brewster was owed 500.

The SKYCITY Auckland staff decided that Spano needed to pay Nguyen 1,000 but now Nguyen needed to give Brewster her 500 ante back from that discrepancy and that she could then continue playing the tournament.
Chip and a chair!

Brewster then quadrupled up in consecutive hands and found herself with around 10,000.

Could she turn that interesting story into a fairytale.

Unfortunately she wouldn't as she was ultimately all in with {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} from the big blind and was up against Brotha 'D' Leaoasavaii’s {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{k-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Brewster was sent to the rail.

Otto Busts

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The hand started with Thomas Ward raising from under the gun before Ryan Otto committed the last of his chips from middle position. The table folded back around to Ward who made the call.

Ward: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Otto: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Ward would deliver the fatal blow, flopping a better pair on a {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} board to send Otto home a few places short of the money.

Ruha Railed

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Sam Ruha has hit the rail!

He was short stacked and all in preflop with {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and had to come up against Stephen Thompson’s {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. The {9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{{j-Spades}{8-Diamonds} board wasn’t friendly to Ruha and so he was eliminated seven places off the money.

There are 30 players remaining.

Guzzardi Holds

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Sam Ruha raised it up to 6,500 from under the gun plus one and watched as the table folded around to Michael Guzzardi in the big blind. He moved all in for 37,400 in chips and was called almost instantly.

Guzzardi: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ruha: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Spades} to Guzzardi kicker play as he took down the pot.

Fu's Fight Comes to An End

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Qiang Fu is the latest player to hit the rail.

He was eliminated when all in with {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} against Matt Carter’s {a-}{k-} on a king-high flop.

Carter had Fu out kicked and sent him straight to the rail.

The APPT Auckland Main Event is now less than a single table off the money.

Rendall Runs It Back Up

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Ben Rendall has just chipped up to around 185,000 after struggling to gain any momentum early in the day.

He recently picked up a pot of around 100,000 chips.

We picked up the action on the river of a {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades} board. The six figures of chips were already in the middle and Carl Boag was first to act. He checked to Rendall who moved all in for 85,000. Mehrdad Razmi was next up and he tank-folded. Back on Boag and he too decided to fold, sending the chips to Rendall!

Dean Blatt

The action folded around to Dean Blatt in the cut off who raised it up to 5,000. Terangi Matenga then bumped it up to 13,000 from the small blind. After the big blind folded, Blatt moved all in for 52,800 in chips. Matenga made the quick call and the cards were shown.

Matenga: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Blatt: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to see Blatt spike a jack on the flop and hold to take down the pot.
