Lovely Ladies Extra Nice to Powell

Julian Powell may not have been kidding when he told Tony Dunst he is running like God today. After one player limped into the pot, Powell raised to 1,300. The limper was the only caller.

On a {Q-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {Q-?} flop, the limper checked to Powell, who bet 1,200. Powell's opponent check-raised to 4,000, but Powell was undeterred and made the call. Both players checked through when the {Q-Clubs} hit the turn. On the river {5-?}, Powell bet 4,000 after his opponent checked. His opponent tanked long enough for a clock to be called, and eventually timed out when he did not act upon his hand.

With that pot, Powell climbed to 60,000. He told the table he had ace-queen.

Sick Bet Kenny

Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran
With about 9,000 in the pot already on a board of {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades} Kenny Tran fired out a healthy bet of 10,000. His opponent went into the tank with a huge decision but eventually laid it down. In true Kenny Tran style, he flipped a sick {3-Spades}{3-Hearts} for just an underpair!

Tran is now up to 27,000 chips.

Bonzon Shoves With the Nuts...Almost

On a board of {3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{J-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and around 8,000 in the pot, Michael Bonzon moved all in for around 28,000 chips into fellow big stack Yamasaki Kazuhiro.

Kazuhiro thought long and hard but eventually folded his hand. As Bonzon raked in the pot he flashed {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} thinking he held the nuts, "Oops I didn't even see the flush out there!" he said. Bonzon is now up to 35,000.

Domingo Far From Dead

In a raised pot on a flop of {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, the action was checked to Jeffrey Domingo who moved all in. He covered his opponent but he made a quick call for his last 6,500 chips.

Domingo said, "Uh oh, I'm dead," as he tabled {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} to be well behind the {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} of his opponent. However he certainly wasn't dead as the {Q-Spades} hit the turn and the {10-Hearts} fell on the river to give Domingo a running straight to send his opponent crashing to the rail. Domingo now sits with around 20,000 in chips.

Timex Running Out of Time to Find Chips

With 3,000 in the pot, Jon Parsons and Mike "Timex" McDonald took three-way flop with the big blind that came down {Q-Hearts} {6-Spades} {5-Hearts}. Parsons was first to act and led out for 1,500. McDonald surveyed the situation before bumping up the price of poker to 3,600. That was enough to fold the player in the big blind.

Parsons took a few moments to eyeball McDonald's stack, which was roughly 7,000 behind McDonald's raise. Satisfied with what he saw, Parsons shoved all in for about 20,000. That was enough to fold McDonald and win the pot.

Parsons now has about 26,000.

Hit the Road, Jack

We're approaching the halfway point of action today. The field has already been tidily trimmed from 154 hopeful starters to a remainder of 109. That makes the average stack about 14,400, or about 48 big blinds at the current blind level of 150/300/25.

If yesterday is any indication, by the end of play tonight another 70 to 75 players will see their dreams of taking home the first place prize of US$500,000 come to an end.

The Transformation of the Poker Room

The tournament room here at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino is starting to transform, as the field here today narrows and preparations for tonight's high-stakes cash game begin.

With a reduced number of satellite, tournament, and sit and go tables now required, staff here are removing some of the extra tables from the room to create a bit more space for the tournament players. Meanwhile, the far corner of the room has been separated with floor-to-ceiling partitions as the set is built for tonight's high-stakes cash game.

With tonight's game being filmed for TV, the camera crews are setting up and sponsor boards are out in force, in preparation for the world's best players in one of the biggest poker cash games ever seen in Asia!

Liu Edges Down

It was a double-raised pot preflop, with about 3,000 chips in the middle. J.J. Liu was in early position against one opponent. Both players checked the flop when it came {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and again both players checked. When the river fell {8-Hearts}, Liu seemed to consider betting before checking a third time. Her opponent also checked. Liu tabled {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}, a hand that was dominated by her opponent's {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}.

Liu continues to tread water with about 10,000 chips.
