Hammer No Good? Impossible!

Yevgeniy Timoshenko disbelieved the power of the hammer, and was rewarded for his faith by winning the pot. He raised to 6,100 from the button. Action folded to Bruce Parker in the big blind, who reraised all in for about 23,000. Timoshenko called and tabled {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. Parker showed The Hammer -- {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs}.

Parker's two live cards took the lead on a flop of {8-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}, but he had a bushel of cards he had to duck by the river, lest Timoshenko overtake him. Parker couldn't do it when the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn to make Timoshenko the nut flush. The river {7-Clubs} added insult to injury.

Timoshenko now has 210,000 to extend his chip lead.

Nguyen Turns Set to Cripple Steen

Quang Nguyen

We caught the action on the turn with the board reading {9-Spades}{J-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, with Quang Nguyen checking to Yngve Steen who fired 20,000 into the already huge pot. Nguyen then check-raised all in for an additional 32,300 chips, sending Steen into the tank.

He stood for several minutes as the two players exchanged some friendly banter about who held the jack.

In the end Steen made the call and it turned out neither held a jack as Steen tabled {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for an overpair but trailed the {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} of Nguyen for a turned set.

The river was the {10-Clubs} giving Nguyen a massive pot worth close to 150,000. Steen was crippled and eliminated a few moments later.

The action folded to Julian Powell in late position who moved all in for his last 32,000 chips. Kai Paulsen made the call on the button.

Powell: {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Paulsen: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{9-Diamonds} making a flush for Paulsen and eliminating Powell from the tournament.

Gentry Hangs on by the Skin of His Teeth

We approached Ryan Gentry's table to see him all in against Moritz Schmejkal. Schmejkal showed pocket nines. Gentry, who had apparently shoved dark, opened his cards one at a time -- {10-Spades} {7-Hearts}. Things looked grim on the {A-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {J-Hearts} flop, but Gentry pulled the {10-Clubs} on the turn to stay alive. He couldn't watch the river, but it was a harmless {Q-Diamonds}.

Gentry pushed on the next hand as well, but found no callers. He now has about 20,000.

Recent Eliminations

There was a flurry of bust-outs just before the break.

Tom Guise is out. His pocket jacks couldn't outrace Carter Gill's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} after a king hit the flop.

At the same time that Guise was busting, Tony Dunst also was eliminated from the tournament.

And in a hand that went five minutes into the break, Markus Mansour was eliminated. He made it 10,000 to go preflop and was called by Julio Diaz on the button. The flop came down {2-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. Mansour bet 20,000, and was called by Diaz.

On the turn {10-Hearts}, Mansour moved all in for about 64,000. Diaz tanked for three minutes before making the call. His {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} were each one pip better than Mansour's {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}. The river fell {5-Hearts} making Diaz the winner and vaulting him to 250,000.

Guise, Dunst and Mansour will each earn $8,250 for their performance in this tournament.

Kastle Doubles

Casey Kastle found himself short and with pocket eights, a hand that perhaps is extremely lucky here in China. He pushed all in for 23,000 and was called by Daniel Francis, who tabled an eight of his own when he showed {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}. Francis never improved when the board ran out {J-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades}.

Kastle now has 46,000, while Francis has slipped to 40,000.
