A Setback for Beattie

We didn't see who was the one to move in first, but Christian Heich wound up all in against Kelvin Beattie. Beattie showed {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} against Heich's {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} but lost the hand. Heich spiked a seven on the flop, {7-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}, and never looked back. He now has 180,000 chips while Beattie is left to struggle with 70,000.

Putty Busts

Graeme Putt eliminated
Graeme Putt eliminated
A short-stacked Graeme Putt has met his demise, after his {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} was no match for the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} of Rodney Snider.

Once again all the chips were in preflop with the board presenting {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Putt hit the rail as Snider moves up to 104,000 chips.

No More Lackovics

Petar Lackovic eliminated
Petar Lackovic eliminated
At this stage of the tournament most of the action is preflop, with players finding a hand worthy of shoving their chips into the middle. This leads to a lot of race situations, as Petar Lackovic just found out when he was all in with {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} of Jason White.

This time the race went White's way as the board fell {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs} to send Lackovic to the exit. White moves up to 122,000.

Ghobrial Caught

Jim Ghobrial was down to his last 35,000 chips and moved them in preflop hoping to steal the blinds with his {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts} but couldn't get past the {A-?}{K-?} of Steve Bouya.

A king on the flop was enough for Bouya to take the pot and eliminate Ghobrial from the tournament.

Delaney Eliminated After Running into Aces Again

Ben Delaney
Ben Delaney
Ben Delaney ran into aces earlier in the day holding {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} (and ultimately lost the hand to Clint Jordanou's {A-?} {K-?}). He ran into aces a second time after he moved all in from the button for 79,000 and Rodney Snider called. Delaney showed {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} and was dismayed to see Snider's {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}. Each player made a full house on a board of {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}. Snider's full house was best. Delaney, therefore, is out.

Beattie's Steal Backfires

Kelvin Beattie, during Day 1 action
Kelvin Beattie, during Day 1 action
When the action folded to Kelvin Beattie on the button he moved all in for his last 70,000 chips hoping to steal the blinds but it wasn't going to be that easy as Christian Heich made the call in the big blind.

Beattie: {10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Heich: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The board landed {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Heich collected the pot to end the tournament for Beattie.

Haki Sejnovski Eliminated in 27th Place (AU$5,482)

Haki Sejnovski, moved all in from middle position. Action folded to Nir Peer in the big blind, who made an easy call with {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}. He was racing against Sejnovski's {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and pulled a king on a {K-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} flop. When the turn fell {6-Diamonds} and the river came {5-Clubs} there was no tournament life left in Sejnovski. He earned AU$5,482 for playing excellent poker in Event #1.

Peer now has about 230,000 in chips.
