Thomas Four-Flushes an Elimination

With a player limping from early position, Barney Thomas opened from the button to 450. His opponent called.

With a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Thomas raised to 1,650 over his opponent's 500-chip bet. The response by his opponent was a 2,950 all-in. Thomas made the call and tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} to be behind the flopped two-pair of {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

The {3-Diamonds} landed on the turn giving Thomas the lead, and after the {9-Hearts} peeled on the river Thomas, moved up to over 13,000 in chips.

Steicke in the Hizzy

David Steicke
David Steicke
David Steicke is the master of the soul read. Few who were there will ever forget the sick call he made near the bubble of the APPT Macau Main Event. He was facing a river all-in bet for most of his stack on a straighting, flushing, paired high-card board. He took five minutes to decide to (correctly) call with ace-high. The point? When you tangle with David Steicke, your soul is on display.

Steicke's starting table today seems to be finding that out. Looking resplendent in a baby blue sweatshirt and torn pink baseball cap, Steicke pondered a bet of 1,600 from his opponent on a board of {4-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Hearts}. He then calmly moved his whole stack into the middle, inducing a rather quick fold.

"Second all in!" clapped a woman at the other end of the table.

"Your turn next," replied Steicke as he stacked the pot.

Gorr Gone

David Gorr has just been on the losing end of an all-in pre-flop war involving three players.

Gorr tabled {A-Spades}{8-Spades} while the other two players contesting the hand tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.

The flop of {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} left Gorr and one of the other players drawing virtually dead to runner-runner. The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and the river the {5-Clubs}, sending both players to the rail.

Poker Success: Flop Trips, Get Paid

Poker is pretty easy-going in these early rounds today for Nik Lackovic. In a limped pot among Lackovic, Tony G, and a third player, the flop came down {8-Clubs} {A-Spades} {8-Hearts}. Lackovic and Tony G checked to the third player, who bet 300. Only Lackovic called. He check-called a second bet of 600 on the {6-Diamonds} turn. When the river fell {2-Hearts}, Lackovic fired out a healthy bet of his own for a total of 1,800. His opponent called but couldn't beat Lackovic's {J-Diamonds} {8-Spades}.

Lackovic is now up to 9,200.

Siu Falls to Schoots

Ian Schoots and Jimmy Siu decided to commit their chips in a huge preflop confrontation. Schoots was the initial raiser, before Siu put in the three-bet. Schoots re-raised once again and Siu decided to call for the last of his chips with {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. He was in trouble as Schoots tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The board fell {8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Siu was sent to the rail, leaving Schoots to stack up 8,700 worth of chips.

Pedley Misses Big Draw

Michael Pedley and James Broom have collided, with all of the chips going in on the turn of a {5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} board.

Broom tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and had his tournament life on the line against Pedley, who held a big combo draw with his {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

The river bricked the {Q-Spades}, and Broom doubled up to 4,200 as Pedley simply shrugged his shoulders. He is now down to to 1,800.

Maver Rivered

The board read {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs} as John Maver shoved for 5,400 over his opponent's 1,500 bet on the flop. His opponent made the call with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, but Maver was in command with {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair.

The turn was a safe {6-Clubs}, however the river landed the {K-Diamonds} to give Maver's opponent a better two pair, slipping Maver down to 2,400.

Thomas Keeps Climbing

Barney Thomas has just sent another player packing and is now sitting pretty with a stack of nearly 20,000.

After raising to 525 pre-flop and finding only one caller, he led for 1,125 on a flop of {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. His opponent made the call and after the {6-Clubs} landed on the turn, Thomas put his opponent all-in for 3,500. His opponent called and tabled {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a flush draw. He would need a lot of help to out-draw Thomas's {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}.

The river fell a meaningless {Q-Hearts}, and Thomas moved up to 19,825 as his opponent headed to the rail, just ten minutes short of reaching the first break.
