Aristidou Doubles

An early double-up in a major tournament is a great confidence-builder. Peter Aristidou is brimming with confidence right now. His pocket nines straightened out on the river of a {10-Clubs} {8-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {6-Clubs}. Aristidou bet 5,700, then called when his opponent moved all in. His ten-high straight was good enough for a double-up.

A short time later Aristidou took down another small pot with pocket jacks against unimproved ace-king. As a result he's eclipsed the 50,000-chip mark.

Obst Getting Better of Pedley

Michael Pedley and James Obst have been battling hard in the early goings with Obst gaining the upper hand.

In a recent clash, Pedley raised to 325 from under the gun with Obst and another opponent making the call. They took a flop of {9-Hearts}{A-Spades}{10-Spades} and Pedley checked to Obst who bet out 800. The third player folded before Pedley put in the check-raise to 3,000. Obst thought for a moment before moving all in! We're only in level one here but the chips are flying!

Pedley gave it up and wasn't happy as he stood and walked away from the table in disgust. He's down to 10,100 while the online phenom known as "Andy McLEOD" is off to a good start with 28,000 chips.

A favorite amongst the Australian poker community, Sydney-based player "Toothpick Tony" Kambouris has started off his Aussie Millions Main Event the wrong way.

On a board of {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs} Gary Benson bet out 2,500, which Kambouris called. With a near 8,000 chips in the pot, Benson tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} and Toothpick Tony promptly mucked.

Gary Benson moves over 30,000. While Kambouris drops to 14,800.

Can Solomon continue his form?

Saab Penalized

The pot was heads up on the river, contested between David Saab and Julian Powell. Powell check-called a bet from Saab on the flop; both players checked the turn. On the river, Powell checked again, prompting Saab to bet. Powell, seated right beside Saab, picked up his cards and glanced at them. Saab took a peek at Powell's cards and laughed.

Powell tanked over his decision for about a minute, while Saab continued to laugh.

"Dave, that's really bad mate," said Powell. "I might have wanted to re-bluff you!" He took another minute to think about his hand, then added, "No, it's really not right. I'm going to have to call a penalty on you."

Saab agreed that he was in the wrong, although he stressed it had not been done maliciously. Nevertheless, tournament staff were summoned to the table and assessed a two-orbit penalty against Saab after Powell folded his hand.

"I think I've received move penalties than anyone in the history of Crown," Saab said from the rail.

Putt Clips Khouiss

On a board of {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} Sam Khouiss led out for 1,000 and Graeme Putt made the call. The turn fell the {8-Clubs} and Putt called Khouiss' bet of 2,000.

The {5-Hearts} on the river saw both players check with Khouiss tabling {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, but it wasn't enough to take the pot as Putt showed {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for trips and the pot as he pushed back to 13,000 chips.
