Berec Manages a Double

Berec finds double
Berec finds double
Minh Nguyen opened to 600 and Jozef Berec made the call. On the flop of {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades} Nguyen led for 1,100 and Berec followed it with a reraise to 4,000. Nguyen then put Berec all in, with Berec making the call for the last of his 14,000-chip stack.

Nguyen: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Berec: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The turn and river fell the {2-Diamonds} and {8-Hearts} to see Berec double to over 30,000 as Nguyen slipped to 55,000 in chips.

Demidov Pushes Bach Around

Despite being slightly under the weather Demidov is relentlessly aggressive
Despite being slightly under the weather Demidov is relentlessly aggressive
Ivan Demidov and David Bach took a {q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop, which saw the Russian bet out to 4,750. Bach flat-called.

The turn came the {q-Clubs} and Demidov checked to Bach. Bach took the lead and fired out 4,650. He probably didn't expect what happened next. Demidov thought a moment before moving his entire stack into the middle, sending Bach into the tank.

After quite a while he decided to fold and Demidov revealed an airball, {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

"I had the same hand," Bach said.

Bach drops down to 12,000. Demidov is just a scratch under 50,000.

Chrisanthopoulos Exits

Crying all the way home
Crying all the way home
Michael Chrisanthopoulos opened to 600 from early position and found two callers. Looking down at a 600 bet on a flop of {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts} Chrisanthopoulos made it 2,000 more.

With the action back on the aggressor, he moved all in for over 8,800 and Chrisanthopoulos made the call for his tournament life, tabling {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} to be in the lead of his opponent's {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

However the turn of the {10-Spades} would shatter Chrisanthopoulos' chances of repeating his final table appearance, and with the {9-Clubs} landing on the river, we lost last year's third-place finisher.

Even the Superstars Catch Penalties

The Crown Poker Room staff have a zero-tolerance policy for violation of the tournament rules, particularly regarding use of mobile phones at the table. The rules are applied evenly across the board, regardless of the players involved. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson just learned that the hard way. He was given a five-minute penalty for not stepping away from his table to use his mobile.

Veenhuyzen Bluffs Levy

Max Veenhuyzen may be trying to get under the skin of the opponents at his very tough table. He bet 3,800 on a board of {3-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Grant Levy mucked {7-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} and seemed surprised to see Veenhuyzen reveal a total airball, {2-Spades} {10-Diamonds}.

Veenhuyzen moved up to 22,000 as a result of the hand.

Wrong Time(x) to Make a Move

Sometimes poker is so easy. Michael "Timex" McDonald flopped top pair and the nut flush draw with {A-Spades} {10-Spades} on a board of {A-Clubs} {q-Spades} {7-Spades}. When his opponent moved all in for roughly 10,000 chips, McDonald decided to make the call. It turned out that his opponent was on complete air with {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} and was drawing dead after the {2-Clubs} hit the turn.

McDonald is up to about 39,000.

Quel at Bad End of Top Pair

Catching the action on a flop of {J-Spades}{Q-Spades}{3-Hearts} Rainer Quel led out for 900 from the blinds and found two callers. The turn landed the {3-Clubs} and Quel led again for 900, but this time his bet was followed by a reraise to 4,000 and Quel made the call.

The river landed the {9-Clubs} and Quel check-called a 5,000-chip bet to see his opponent table {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} for a set. Quel mucked his hand showing a {Q-?} as he slipped to 11,000 in chips.

Zhi Hong Ma Back From the Brink

Zhi Hong Ma sets up to stay alive
Zhi Hong Ma sets up to stay alive
Zhi Hong Ma is back from the brink of elimination.

An already short-stacked Ma, was only a few outs away from elimination after he moved his last 5,000 chips all in preflop holding {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and found a caller holding {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

Fortunately for Ma the flop came {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades} putting him back in the driver's seat, and the turn {a-Spades} and river {j-Hearts} gave him a full book and doubled him through.

Hong Ma has some chips to work with at 11,000, but still has a lot do to get back into this tournament.

Tahtouh on the Rise

Facing an all-in player for 5,725, Emad Tahtouh moved all in over the top for 8,350 and everyone passed.

Tahtouh: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Tahtouh sent a player to the rail as he started to climb back to his starting stack; now sitting with 15,500 in chips.

Doesn't Mind Overkill

Wardak makes quads
Wardak makes quads
Saidal Wardak called a preflop raise to 625 out of the small blind. On the {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop both players checked, bringing a {j-Hearts} turn.

On the turn Wardak fired 1,000 and was reraised by the middle-position player to 3,000. He proceeded to move his stack into the middle. Wardak's opponent went into the tank for so long that time was eventually called. Finally as his time expired, the player made the call and Wardak tabled {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, well ahead of the {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} that his opponent possessed.

The river was a little overkill, but nice nonetheless, dropping the {6-Spades} to make Wardak four of a kind.

Wardak continues to battle on at 22,000.
