Jacks into Queens Halves Tony G's Stack

Everyone at PokerNews is hoping that the PokerNews chairman, Tony G, would be able to replicate Noah Schwartz's early success at Table 11. Tony moved all in for his whole stack of approximately 60,000 after an opponent opened for 7,400. That opponent called all in for 30,000 chips, tabling {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}. That was one rank better than Tony's {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}. He didn't improve on a board of {6-Clubs} {8-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {K-Clubs}. As a result, Tony G's stack is down to 27,000.

Hachem Trips Up the Counts

2005 World Series of Poker Main Event champion and local hero Joe Hachem raised to 2,100 from middle position and was called by button Zach Fellows. Both players checked on the {9-Hearts} {9-Spades} {6-Clubs} flop. Hachem bet 3,500 when the turn fell {4-Clubs} and was called by Fellows. He followed that up with a bet of 6,500 on the {4-Hearts} river. Fellows called again, then mucked when Hachem showed him {Q-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} for flopped trip nines.

Hachem is up to 54,000. Fellows is down to 41,000.

Revenge of the Short Stacks

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
Incredibly the short stacks are fighting back hard today after having a rough time during Day One.

Eric Assadourian has doubled again. After the small blind raised to 2,500, Eric Assadourian made the call in the big blind. They saw a flop of {4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and the small blind led for 10,000 before Assadourian moved all in. His opponent called with {10-Clubs}{J-Spades} but Assadourian was in front with {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The turn and river fell {6-Clubs}, {6-Spades} and Assadourian is amazingly now up to 24,000 chips.

From a nearby table Mark Vos then borrowed Assadourian's lucky charm and managed a double up of his own.

He was all in with his short stack with {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds} against the big blind's dominating {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and found a miracle five on a {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts} board. Vos is up to 7,200.

Assadourian quickly snatched his charm back saying, "If you need it once more, that's it!"

Aristidou Eliminated

After a rough start to day two of the Main Event Peter Aristidou has been eliminated. Aristidou started the day with almost 80,000 in chips but quickly found himself at almost half that figure.

Then in an all-in confrontation he found his {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} dominated by the {A-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} of Cort Kibler-Melby on a flop of {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The board blanked out {4-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and when they counted down the stacks Kibler-Melby had Aristidou covered by the smallest of margins eliminating the popular Crown player from the tournament.

Kibler-Melby now has 95,000 chips.

No English On It

Tim English eliminated
Tim English eliminated
An extremely short-stacked Timothy English has been eliminated from the Main Event.

English moved all in with {K-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and was called by David Kruger holding {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The board was no help to English and he hits the rail.

Vos' Luck Runs Out

Mark Vos was unable to climb out of his short-stacked hole. He moved in for {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} and was called by a player with {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}. Vos made trip sixes, but his opponent filled up on a {2-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {6-Clubs} board. He's out.

McIver Spikes a Jack

Dean McIver must have borrowed Eric Assadourian's lucky charm. He raised to 7,500 from the button after Neil Channing opened for 2,500. Channing put in a third raise to 15,000 that McIver called.

Both players checked the {2-?} {K-?} {5-?} flop. When the turn fell another deuce, Channing led out for 10,000. McIver tanked for a while before deciding to move his last 30,000 into the middle. Channing snap-called with pocket aces. McIver was dead to a two-outer when he turned over pocket jacks. No problem, though -- a jack spiked on the river to give him a full house. He's up to 90,000, while Channing's misfortune has dropped his stack to 30,000.

Out of Laak

Phil Laak has been eliminated from the tournament in fairly sick circumstances. Laak got all of his chips in good, holding {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs} on a {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop against his opponent's {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. However the turn {7-Clubs} made the opponent trips, and Laak wasn't able to pull out a redraw with the {5-Spades} river.
