David Docherty Eliminated in 31st Place (AU$30,000)

David Docherty - 31st Place
David Docherty - 31st Place
Ach. David Docherty is out at the hand of Annette Obrestad. Obrestad, the player who crippled Docherty earlier, finished the job by raising from under the gun to 14,000. Docherty moved in for 65,000 from the small blind with {Q-Hearts} {J-Hearts} and groaned when Obrestad called with {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}.

With chants of "Hearts! Hearts!" coming from media row, the flop came down {3-Hearts} {J-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. There was one heart and a pair of jacks for Docherty. The turn {3-Clubs} took away his running heart draw. The river {10-Spades} took away the rest of his chips.

Docherty got a short round of applause from the railbirds upon his exit. He finished in 31st place and earned AU$30,000. Congratulations, David. You played admirable poker.

Mizzi Doubles through Francis

Sorel Mizzi was dealt pocket tens preflop and probably figured there was no way that he was NOT going to put all of his chips in the middle. He opened for 16,000 from middle position and was called by Francis Ellis and Richard Ashby. The flop was all small cards, {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. Mizzi followed up his preflop raise with a flop bet of 26,000 that only Ellis called. On the turn {K-Hearts}, the last 40,000 of Mizzi's chips went in the middle. Ellis called again.

Mizzi: {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades}
Ellis: {5-Spades} {5-Hearts}

The river blanked out {9-Spades} to give Mizzi the pot. He's on 160,000 now. Francis Ellis is down to 240,000.

Chronis Takes a Hit

Chris Chronis has taken a massive dent to his stack at the hands of Antonio Casale.

Chronis opened 25,000 preflop from under the gun and Casale made the call from the big blind. The flop came {j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and Casale fired out 50,000. Chronis flat called, taking the hand to the turn {4-Spades}. Once again Casale led out 50,000 for Chronis to flat call. The river came the {7-Spades} and Chronis went into the tank before he flat called Casale's 100,000 chip bet.

Maybe he shouldn't have called. As Casale rolled over {A-Spades}{q-Hearts} for the nut flush, Chronis let fly with a loud four letter expletive formerly banned from the World Series of Poker.

Chronis drops to 765,000. Casale moves up to 610,000.

Pongrass Doubles

Tom Pongrass has just doubled through Stewart Scott. Pongrass open shoved preflop from the button for 62,000 and Scott made the call in the small blind. Pongrass tabled {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and was in good shape against the {q-Spades}{10-Spades} of Scott.

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to double through Pongrass to 138,000. Scott drops to 920,000.

Damon Lum Eliminated in 30th Place (AU$40,000)

Damon Lum has been eliminated in 30th place by Grant Levy.

Levy opened to 16,000 and Lum moved over the top all in for 135,000. Levy made the call and off to the races they went.

Levy {A-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Lum {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop was bad for Lum. The {2-Clubs} turn prolonging his tournament life by one street, the {k-Diamonds} river sealing the nut flush for Levy and moving him up to 520,000.

Another Setback for Scott

Stewart Scott has been trending downward a bit over the course of the last hour. He opened for 16,000 in early position and was called by Zach Fellows. Scott made a continuation bet of 25,000 on the {9-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} flop. Fellows called again.

When the turn came {9-Spades}, Scott slowed down. He checked to Fellows, then called a bet of 50,000. That brought the two players to the river, which fell {5-Hearts}. Scott checked again, prompting Fellows to bet 125,000. Scott flashed the {A-Spades} before folding.

Fellows is closing in on half a million chips. Scott has less than 900,000 now.

"You're Good."

Swedish player Michael Tureniec took a small pile of chips off of Christian Heich without ever improving on his preflop hand. Tureniec started with {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} in the hole and took a raised flop with Heich. That flop was {9-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} and brought a bet of 38,000 from Tureniec. Heich called.

Both players checked the {4-Spades} turn. The river double-paired the board, {9-Diamonds}. Tureniec checked it over to Heich, who made a stab with a bet of 50,000. Tureniec called and opened his hand, showing {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} for two pair, kings and nines with an ace kicker. Apparently that was good, because Heich mucked.

Ivert's Tank-Bet Backfires

Annica Ivert has played excellent poker throughout this Main Event. Part of excellent poker is taking aggressive chances, and another part is knowing when to surrender. Ivert check-raised Zach Fellows from 11,000 to 36,000 on a flop of {8-Spades} {3-Hearts} {4-Spades}. Fellows made the call, and then called another 48,000 when the turn fell {Q-Spades}.

The river was the {A-Diamonds}. Ivert was first to act and tanked for approximately three minutes before betting 68,000. Then it was Fellows' turn to tank, for another a minute, before raising to 180,000. Ivert quickly folded, preserving a stack of 430,000 chips. Fellows is up to 590,000.

Ivert Forces Scott to Fold

Annica Ivert has forced a costly fold from Stewart Scott late in the days play.

Preflop Scott raised to 16,000 and was re-raised by Ivert to 44,000. Scott made the call and they saw a flop of {7-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} which both players checked. The turn brought {6-Diamonds} which saw Ivert check call a 50,000 chip bet from Scott to go the river.

On the river {3-Spades} Ivert bet out 50,000, and Scott came over the top for 102,000. Ivert moved all in, in response and Scott had a big decision to make.

In the end he folded leaving himself with 628,000. Ivert now has 709,000.
