It's a bad start to post-dinner play for Grant Levy. Sitting in the small blind, he reraised Sam Capra from 45,000 to 108,000 preflop. Capra called to a flop of , where he called another 100,000 after Levy led out. Levy checked the turn to Capra, who responded by moving all in. Capra was kind enough to flash an ace after Levy mucked his hand.
Christian Heich opened for 40,000 from the cutoff. The player on the button to his left was Stewart Scott, who has amassed a stack today by playing extremely aggressive poker. He lived up to his image by reraising to 100,000. Heich called.
Both players checked the flop. Heich checked again when the turn fell . Scott bet 100,000, then flashed the after Heich folded.
Christian Heich raised to 40,000 from the cutoff and Stewart Scott made the call on the button. The action was then with Dixon Ruecker in the small blind who put in a three-bet to 155,000.
Next to speak was Barny Boatman in the big blind. Perhaps he sensed weakness as he moved all in over the top for all of his 692,000 chips. His three opponents all folded and Boatman flashed the !
Boatman captures a very nice pot without contest to now sit with 960,000.
You can almost feel a vice around the three tables in the center of the Crown Poker Room, squeezing the play of the remaining fourteen players tighter and tighter. Every elimination carries quite a bit of significance at this stage of the tournament. Players are playing very, very carefully.
Christian Heich raised to 40,000 from the cutoff and Stewart Scott made the call on the button.
They saw a flop of and Heich led out for 60,000. Scott then raised to 130,000 before Heich raised again to 245,000. Scott moved all in and Heich made the call.
Heich:
Scott:
Needing a heart for the flush or seven for the straight, Scott watched as the turn delivered the to complete his flush. Heich was left requiring a deuce or ten to make a full house, but the river was the and Heich crashes out of the tournament in 14th place. He'll collect AU$65,000 for his efforts.
Meanwhile Stewart Scott becomes the first player to eclipse the 3 million chip mark!
At the same time that Christian Heich was all in, there was significant action on Richard Ashby's table. He had opened the betting for 47,000 and was called by Sam Capra before Zach Gruneberg reraised from the big blind to 147,000. Ashby moved in for 237,000 total, folding Capra. Gruneberg was priced in.
Gruneberg:
Ashby:
The board ran out safe for Ashby, . He doubled to 510,000, moving Gruneberg back to 380,000.
From table to table the camera crew raced. Elliot Smith and Tino Lechich were waiting on a camera crew for five minutes to complete their hand. Peter Rho had opened for 42,000, then folded after Tino Lechich called and Elliot Smith moved all in. Lechich was the one who made the call.
Smith:
Lechich:
"I lose half my stack here," Lechich said glumly while waiting for the cameras. "Twenty eight percent," he added, referring to his EV in the hand.
Finally the cameras arrived, and the dealer started burning and turning. Lechich let out a hopeful "Hey..." at the turn with the board showing . He realized a deuce would give him a chop. But the river fell , doubling Smith up to 720,000. Lechich is down to 415,000.
Tino Lechich is continuing to slide after losing back-to-back pots. In the first hand he raised to 41,000 only for Peter Rho to reraise to 133,000 from the small blind. Lechich folded face up.
Then Lechich tried again with a button raise to 41,000, only for Elliot Smith to re-pop it to 125,000. Again Lechich folded and again he advertised by flashing the .
To emphasize, the slowdown in play is creating many more hands of a "raise it and take it" variety than we've seen to this point in the tournament. There is occasional variation; Barny Boatman opened for 43,000 from the cutoff before Grant Levy moved all in for 196,000 total from the button. Everyone folded.
