Rubie Doubles

It was folded around to a short-stacked Brendon Rubie who from the button looked at one card before sticking his last 42,000 into the middle. His opponent in the big blind quickly called with {A-?}{q-?}. Rubie announced "I have a king" and then flipped over the {k-Diamonds} before looking at his second card. Fortunately for Rubie it was the {a-Spades} and he apologized for the unintentional slow roll.

The board bricked out and Rubie doubled up to about 90,000.

King Kondevski

Todor Kondevski raised to 12,000 before his opponent in the big blind moved all-in over the top. Kondevski snap-called with {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} to be in command against {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

The board ran out {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Kondevski moves up to 87,000 chips.

Tsapkounis Zapped

2009 PokerNews Cup Australia Main Event winner Con Tsapkounis has just been eliminated from Event 1.

Tsapkounis opened with a raise to 11,000 from the hijack position and an opponent came over the top with a 30,000 three-bet. Tsapkounis made the call and the two saw a {4-Spades}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds} flop, which, under most circumstances would've been golden for Tsapkounis who held the {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. As fate would have it, his opponent held pocket aces and called Tsapkounis' all-in bet on the flop. The turn and river blanked out {7-Clubs}, {2-Diamonds} and the aces held to eliminate Tsapkounis from Event 1.

Lackovic Runs Into Rubie

Petar Lackovic has been eliminated at the hands of Brendon Rubie. Lackovic moved all-in for his last 20,000 from late position, finding one call in the cutoff position, before Brendon Rubie moved all-in over the top from the small blind to force a fold from the cutoff player.

Lackovic: {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Rubie: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}

The board was spread {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} and Rubie takes it down to eliminate Lackovic from the tournament.

All Downhill for Xenofontos

Graham: set to shake things up
Graham: set to shake things up
Xen Xenofontos is feeling the pressure after losing another big pot to Luke McLean just before the break.

The money was all in the middle on preflop and we caught the action as the cards were tabled:

McLean: {A-?}{A-?}
Xenofontos: {K-?}{J-?}

The board was spread {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} - McLean moves back up to 100,000 while Xenofontos is on 79,000. However they have an even bigger problem to deal with - Jarred "FlopNutsOnYou" Graham has just been moved onto their table and holds 297,000 in chips!

Game On

The remaining 112 players have retaken their seats inside the Crown Poker Room and the cards are back in the air.

Bubble Rapidly Approaching

It's been a rather frenetic pace so far this afternoon as we rapidly approach that stage of the tournament where the short stacks nervously look over their shoulders as the money bubble is now upon us.

According to the big screen we have 112 players remaining which means we are only four eliminations away from the cash. The minimum reward for players in this event is $2,286 AUD, so certainly worth hanging around a little bit longer to reach!
