Star On The Rise

Josh Budin is a player that has rapidly developed a profile here in Australia in the latter half of 2009. Part of the unique poker reality TV show "The Poker Star" Budin didn't win the title on the show, but he's certainly proven his abilities on the felt.

In a recent hand, Budin got his chips into the middle on a {9-?}{6-?}{4-?}{10-?} board holding pocket nines against Jason Guiliano who aggressively played his {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} straight draw. The river {10-?} filled up Budin to jump him to 24,000 and send Guiliano to the exit.

Taylor Jacks an Opponent

Paul Taylor has started well, flopping a set of three's and blowing away an opponent who couldn't fold jacks.

The {k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop was nice to Taylor, and when he led the betting the opponent didn't believe him.

On the turn {6-Clubs} Taylor shipped in his stack and the opponent made the call trailing by a long way.

The {a-Spades} hit the river and Taylor moves into a good position.

Life's Good for Rawiller

Brad Rawiller has raced out to 38,000 and if one of his recent hands is anything to go by, he hasn't exactly done it the hard way.

With a decent preflop exchange, an {A-Spades}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop hit, with Rawiller leading 1,000 chips. The opponent moved in for 8,500 and Rawiller thought a moment before making the call.

It was a good call, the opponent shocked the table rolling over {Q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for a rather brave (or stupid) bluff.

Rawiller's {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} would be the best hand after the {4-Spades} turn and {q-Hearts} river to add to his mountain of chips.

Poker Gods Are Smiling

Melbourne's Damian Harman is thanking his lucky stars after managing to eliminate an opponent in dramatic fashion.

The money was all in the middle on a flop that read {q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades} and it was off to the races:

Opponent: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Harman: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Harman needed a miracle and it came when the turn and river produced {A-Hearts},{Q-Clubs} for a runner-runner full house, queens full of aces!

The opponent was livid, slamming the table with his hand before storming out of the room. Harman is now on 15,000 in chips.

Who Needs Top Pair

The artist formerly known as Tony Green, who prefers to go by his PokerNetwork screen name "Top Pair Tony G", has recently doubled through.

While the action isn't clear the chips ended up in the middle with Green's {A-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} against the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} of Daniel Atalla.

The board of {A-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{k-Clubs} gave Top Pair a boat and 16,000 chips, while Atalla exits empty handed.

Demetriou Done

A man that calls himself "Lucky Eddie" claimed responsibility for the elimination of Andrew Demetriou.

According to Eddie's recount, he first managed to take a huge chunk of change out of Demetriou by catching a runner-runner flush against him.

Eddie busted him in the next hand when Demetriou shoved with {Q-?}{9-?} on a nine-high flop, only to find Eddie wake up with pocket kings which held all the way.

Casale Will Take You On, Anytime, Any Place, Anywhere!

Antonio Casale's chip stack is looking lean at the moment, but there's no stopping the crowd favourite - he's even sizing himself up for a foot race with tournament director Mike Tarr.

"What are you, 14, 15 stone?" Casale asked Tarr.

"I'm 103 kilos, so about that," Tarr replied. "But it's a very healthy 103!"

"I'll still beat you in a race though," Casale boasted.

"My money's on Casale," this blogger quipped. "Mine too!" replied Tarr.

Just Quads For Curly

Emanuel "Curly" Seal
Emanuel "Curly" Seal
After raising preflop, Emanuel "Curly" Seal raised the bet of his opponent to 600 on an {8-Spades}{A-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop and received a call.

The turn brought a repeat {7-Clubs} and Seal's opponent in the big blind didn't give up and fired out again for 500. Seal just flat called and they saw yet another {7-Diamonds} fall on the river.

The big blind fired out again for 1,000 but Seal popped it once again, this time to 3,000. His opponent called, but Seal flipped {A-Hearts}{7-Spades} for just quads to take it down. He's up to 18,000.

Will The Aussies Get Carter?

"With me it's a full time job..."
"With me it's a full time job..."
Brit Dan Carter (not to be confused with rugby player) has already declared, "This is the easiest table I've ever been on. One guy just limp-calls every hand. They're worse than the French!"

Carter is on 8,500 waiting for his spots...
