Nguyen's Favourite Hand

After calling a preflop raise, Bruce Nguyen decided to check-raise the {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, making it 1,500 to play. His opponent called, and the {J-Clubs} hit the turn. Nguyen checked again, but this time just flat called the 2,500-chip bet.

On the {9-Diamonds} river, Nguyen plonked all of his last 7,000 chips into the middle and his opponent quickly called. Nguyen revealed {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for trip nines, which was good to take it down and move up to 21,000 chips.

Saab Ups The Gears

David Saab is up to 22,000 after being paid off on a {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {A-Hearts} by Manny Rodrigues. Both players checked the flop before Saab fired out 1,500 on the turn and 2,500 on the river. Rodrigues called both bets showing {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} but Saab showed {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} to move up to 22,000. Rodrigues is on 9,500

The Poker Star Recovers

The Poker Star herself, Amanda De Cesare struggled to get going today and was lamenting the fact that she lost with pocket aces and then twice with ace-king during the first ten minutes of play.

"I was tilting my brain off, but I'm ok now..." she sighed. After earlier being down to 4,500, De Cesare is now back up to around 14,000.

People Like To Give Sorel Their Chips

It's an easy game. You hit hands and everyone just tries to bluff you needlessly.

Sorel Mizzi raised preflop to 550 and got two callers and they saw a {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {3-Diamonds} flop.

The board was checked to Mizzi who bet 900, the first caller folded but the big blind check-raised to 2,500. Mizzi made the call.

On the {A-Hearts} the big blind bet 3,000 and again Mizzi called and the hand reached the {10-Hearts} river where the big blind moved all-in for 5,600. Mizzi called with {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} and the big blind could only produce an airball of {K-Spades} {8-Clubs}.

The very next hand...

Mizzi again raised to 550 and the small blind called.

Both players checked the {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {7-Spades} flop before the small blind fired out bets of 1,000 and 2,000 on the {A-Spades} turn and {7-Clubs} river. Mizzi called down with {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} to which his opponent could only show {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts}.

Mizzi has jumped up to 55,000.

Scott Slips

Scott: much ado about nothing
Scott: much ado about nothing
2009 Crown Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event winner Stewart Scott raised preflop to 500 and the action folded around to Gerald Juvie who made the call.

Both players checked all the way down a board of {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}; Scott then looked up at Juvie and said, "You've got me beat."

"No, I reckon you do," he replied, showing {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} - to Juvie's amazement, Scott mucked!

"Why do I always do this to myself?" Scott lamented.

Michael Tran Eliminated

The money was all in on the flop of {3-Spades}{9-Spades}{a-Hearts} between Michael Tran, who showed {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for a flush draw but was behind Adam Kane who tabled {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for top pair and the nut flush draw.

Tran needed a miracle but the {9-Clubs} came down on the turn, sealing the deal for Kane and Tran's fate when the river {k-Hearts} completed the board.

Mizzi Doesn't Miss

The reason for Sorrel Mizzi's excellent early start is down to his pure binkage ability. The Canadian got his stack in with {Q-?} {Q-?} against {K-?} {K-?} and caught a third {Q-?} on the river for a full double up.
