There can be only one!
There can be only one!
Welcome back to our coverage of the 2010 Crown Aussie Millions $5,300 Australian Heads Up Championship!

We started with 50 players and after two days of heads-up action we are down to just eight. Each player is guaranteed AUD $15,625 but nobody will be resting on their laurels as they battle it out for the top prize of AUD $75,000 and the championship ring!

Our quarter final matches are as follows:

Barry Woods vs. Vanessa Selbst

Andrew Lichtenberger vs. Martin Gudvangen

Kyle McMurphy vs. Brian Roberts

Darren Woods vs. Andrew Seidman

It's shaping up to be one helluva battle and the quarter finalists will have the added pressure of playing under the bright lights of Studio 3 with the cameras watching their every move.

So many questions unanswered, but most importantly: who will win?

There's only one way to find out - and that's by following the action here on PokerNews when we get underway in 30 minutes' time!

How it Works

All of today's finals matches consist of 20 six minute levels, with the current quarter final matches and semi finals giving each player a 10,000 start bank.

The final match and third-place playoff will feature a 20,000 start bank.

Advantage McMurphy

Kyle McMurphy: 1 vs. Brian Roberts: 0

We caught the action on a board that read {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}; McMurphy checked to Roberts who led out for 2,050 into a pot worth around 3,000 in chips.

McMaster called, then checked when the dealer produced the {3-Spades} on the river. Roberts deliberated, then moved the rest of his stack into the middle.

McMurphy snap-called, tabling {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Brown looked sick, rolling up {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. Brown was covered by only 50 in chips and it's 1-0 to McMurphy!

I'm Just Wild About Barry

Barry Woods: 1 vs. Vanessa Selbst: 0

The money was all in preflop between Selbst and Woods and we caught the action as the cards were tabled:

Woods: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Selbst: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{j-Spades} and Woods draws first blood on the feature table.

Doubled Up Twice, Still Deadlocked

Andrew Lichtenberger: 0 vs. Martin Gudvangen: 0

Lichtenberger was as low as 2,400 but has managed to double up twice against Gudvangen.

In the first hand Lichtenberger got the last of his chips in with {k-Spades}{j-Spades} preflop and held up against Gudvangen's {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} when the board was spread {7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}.

Lichtenberger made it all square a few hands later; his {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} won the flip against Gudvangen's {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} when the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

Still Nil

Darren Woods: 0 vs. Andrew Seidman: 0

Seidman looked in strife when he moved the last of his money in the middle with {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs} against Woods' {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} but managed to double up after hitting on the flop of {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

The turn and river ran out {4-Diamonds}, {4-Spades} and the first leg of their quarter final match continues.

Lichtenberger Takes First Honours

Andrew Lichtenberger: 1 vs. Martin Gudvangen: 0

Lichtenberger managed to wrestle the chips back from Gudvangen after his {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} held up on a board of {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts} against Gudvangen's {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

Left with only a handful of chips, Gudvangen moved them into the middle a short time later with {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

Lichtenberger called, tabling {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and the board ran out {3-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} to give Lichtenberger the first game.
