The Final Match

Play in the Australian Heads Up Championship final is about to begin between Barry Woods and Kyle McMurphy on the feature table here in Studio 3.

We have just been advised that Martin Gudvangen came out on top in the third place playoff over Darren Wood.

The starting bank for the final is 20,000 in chips. The levels are still at 20 minutes with the following levels:

Level 1: 100/200
Level 2: 150/300
Level 3: 200/400
Level 4: 300/600
Level 5: 400/800
Level 6: 600/1,200

... and we are underway!

Woods Takes One Down

On a flop that read {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}, Kyle McMurphy checked to Barry Woods who led out for 325. McMurphy called, then checked when the dealer produced the {j-Clubs} on the turn.

Woods fired out 625, McMurphy called then check-called Woods' third shell of 1,050 on the river of the {4-Spades}.

Murphy turned up {j-Hearts}{6-Spades} for two pair and McMurphy mucked his hand.

Trading Chips

It's still passive between Kyle McMurphy and Barry Woods in this first game of the final, with chips basically being traded between them, but Woods seems to have the upper hand so far.

McMurphy check-called Woods' bet of 725 on a flop of {5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs}, then both players checked down the rest of the board which ran out {4-Hearts}, {3-Clubs}.

Woods turned up {9-Spades}{5-Spades} but was no good against McMurphy's {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

Wood regained those chips a short time later. He limped in from the button preflop and McMurphy checked his option from the big blind to see a flop of {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, which they both checked.

McMurphy then check-called Woods' bet of 375 on the turn of the {5-Clubs} before check-folding after Woods fired out 750 on the river {5-Clubs}.

McMurphy Gains Upper Hand

With the blinds at 150/300, Kyle McMurphy raised to 700 from the button preflop, only to see Barry Woods reraise to 1,900 from the big blind. McMurphy called and they saw a flop of {6-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

Woods led out for 2,625 and McMurphy called before the dealer produced the {q-Clubs} on the turn. Woods bet 5,525, McMaster called again, then Woods led out for 4,200 on the river of the {6-Hearts}.

McMurphy looked puzzled, going into the tank for about two minutes before making the call. Woods showed {k-Hearts}{j-Spades} for a busted straight draw; McMurphy rolled up {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for two pair.

McMaster took down a massive pot after that hand, leaving Woods with around 8,300 in chips.

McMurphy Draws First Blood

Barry Woods raised to 900 before the flop from the button and Kyle McMurphy called from the big blind to see a flop of {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

McMurphy checked to Woods who led out for 625. McMurphy check-raised to 1,675, Woods called and the dealer produced the turn of the {j-Clubs}.

McMurphy led out for 3,100, Woods moved all in over the top and McMurphy snap-called.

McMurphy: {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Woods: {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}

Needing a four or nine, the river {a-Spades} blanked out on the river; it's now 1-0 in McMurphy's favour.

Woods Regains Control

The generous structure of this final has resulted in very few hands going past a flop, but on a board of {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, we saw Kyle McMurphy lead out for 1,200 on the turn before Barry Woods raised to 2,800.

McMurphy called, then checked his option on the river {9-Clubs}. Woods fired out 4,700 and McMurphy quickly mucked, clearly not interested in trying to claim the pot.

McMurphy Back in the Hunt

Barry Woods was looking dominant in the second set but Kyle McMurphy has scored a timely double-up to bring the chip stacks back to almost even.

McMurphy raised to 650 from the button preflop and Woods called from the big blind before checking his option on the flop of {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

McMurphy fired out 1,000, Woods raised to 2,200, McMurphy moved all in for his last 7,250 and Woods called.

McMurphy: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Woods: {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Needing another eight to bring the match to one-all, the turn and river came down {3-Spades}, {3-Clubs} and McMurphy doubled up.

Woods Makes it All Square

Barry Woods kept applying the pressure, forcing Kyle McMurphy out of the pot in several hands to consolidate on his chip lead until finally making it all square.

Woods raised to 900 from the button, only to see McMurphy reraise to 2,100 from the big blind. Woods called, then called Woods' bet of 2,600 on the flop of {9-Hearts}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}.

On the turn of the {j-Hearts}, McMurphy check-raised all-in after Woods fired out 3,200. Woods snap-called.

McMurphy: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Woods: {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Both had turned a big hand; McMurphy had a set of jacks but Woods had the straight. Needing the board to pair, the river {4-Hearts} bricked on the river.

It's now even-stevens in this ultimate heads-up battle. We're only one game away from crowning our champion!

McMurphy Chips Up

Kyle McMurphy has taken the first major pot in this decisive game.

On a flop that read {9-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, McMurphy checked to Woods who led out for 825 from the button. McMurphy check-raised to 2,075, Woods four-bet it to 4,475 and McMurphy flat-called before both players checked the turn of the {9-Diamonds}.

On the river of the {7-Diamonds}, McMurphy deliberated for about a minute before leading out for a bet of 7,550. After about two minutes in the tank, Woods let his hand go.
